Job Description

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency: The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

This position is responsible for assisting Supervisors in the Social Work (SW) field offices to ensure various work assignments are completed in accordance with Iowa Code and regulatory guidelines.

Description of work:

  • Required to work 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday

  • Assist supervisors in the Social Work (SW) field office to ensure work assignments are completed in accordance with Iowa Code and regulatory guidelines.

  • Organize and oversee confidential files including creation, management, and retention.

  • Compose notifications and other correspondence.

  • Act as resident expert for support staff in various SW program areas.

  • Provide training for new support staff in the performance of duties required to support the Social Work staff in the completion of their work

  • Provide training for new staff in use of computer systems.

  • Oversee and assist with the support of social work processes ensuring timely and accurate completion of required tracking and paperwork.

  • Liaison between support and SW staff, ensuring that information is shared to assure operation needs are met.

  • Perform administrative duties to assist SW units.

  • Perform back-up responsibilities for all clerical staff or as assigned

  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions and review manual and other communications to keep current on policy and procedure.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely related work;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or satisfactory completion of a recognized correspondence or formal job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level such as that offered by WIN, OEO, CEP, CIVEC or similar programs, for one year only of the required experience;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;

OR

certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk–Advanced.
