Corteva Agriscience Training Technician in Algona, Iowa


The Training Technician/Coordinator is responsible for providing training to hourly and salaried employees at the assigned production location(s) to ensure all employees have a thorough understanding of all of Corteva’s safety and quality standards and are able to apply learnings to their daily responsibilities. Focus will also be to ensure location employees are trained on GROW-U modules as well as CAMS procedures.

The Training Technician is responsible for all aspects of the technical training requirements to include the development of new training materials, maintaining the training calendar, performing the physical training, and coordination of training events.

  • Determine training needs and requirements for the location on the following topics: safety, health and environment; GROW-U modules, CAMS and process work instructions. Lead the training, communication and education efforts, with enthusiasm, energy and believability in what you are training. Develop and implement training programs for employees on a variety of safety subjects, including occupational safety and health, fire protection, etc. Will assist in developing new process training aids when needed (i.e. Visual Work Instructions, Standard Operating Conditions, Standard Work, Troubleshooting Guides, and Standard Operating Procedures) as well as auditing their use.

  • Will also serve as a backup in the absence of the subject matter expert in safety, CAMS, etc.

  • Administrative duties including taking safety meeting minutes, JSAs, SOPs & tracking employee training requirements. Ensures the completeness and maintenance of all records, documents or reports related to assigned safety and health programs. May assist with preparation of reports, graphs, and presentation materials to communicate key safety statistics. May conduct safety training at locations.

  • Will lead efforts as assigned by management, which may include acting as Safety Coordinator or other Process Improvement activities. Ensure safety programs are implemented. Promote employee awareness of safety through training, publications, and safety statistics.

  • Assist with basic industrial hygiene functions such dosimeter & dust monitoring.

  • Assist with required programs inspections (i.e. emergency lighting, eye wash) and visual inspection requirements (i.e. ladders, fall protection, fire extinguishers).

  • Handles onboarding of new employees and contractors to ensure a thorough understanding of policies and procedures. May conduct tours as well as hands on training of equipment operations. Reiterates the importance of Life Saving Rules and Core Values.

  • Act as liaison with Agencies regarding training requirements. Communicates with and ensures contract agencies are training their employees on the required policies and procedures.

  • Perform audits of required skill sets to identify training needs and skill levels. May assist in incident Investigation and Safety Audits when necessary. May coordinate 1st party audit process at location and be a member of the Risk Management 2nd party audit process.

  • Support location in record-keeping of Occupational Safety & Health programs and other certifications for regulatory compliance. This includes managing training attendance and records retention.


Requirements- Who You Are:

What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • A minimum of a high school diploma/GED is required.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 2-4 years on-the-job or related technical training or agricultural manufacturing experience.

  • Equivalent relevant experience and education will be considered.

  • OSHA 10-hr or 30-hr training certification preferred.

  • Must obtain Train the Trainer certification.

  • Finger dexterity for using keyboard. Must be able to operate specialized safety equipment and alarms, plus access and audit a wide variety of safety conditions including elevated areas, crawl spaces, machinery safety, etc.

  • Primarily in a production office setting with regular interaction taking place in a high traffic & activity plant/warehouse areas, plus visits to field locations. High workload with long hours, possible shift work and weekend work during seasonal peaks. Occasional travel within the region.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Superior writing and editing skills.

  • Demonstrated skills in training, coaching, and leading others in a group setting. Ability to influence without direct authority.

  • Creativity is needed to keep materials interesting and fresh. Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information into easily understood training content.

  • Computer Skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically advanced knowledge of PowerPoint presentation development.

  • High attention to detail is needed to maintain awareness of existing and proposed changes to policies, procedures and regulations.

  • High organizational skills.

  • Must be proactive as well as solve problems and make decisions in time sensitive conditions.
