Job Description:

The 4-H Youth Development department with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for a 4-H Youth Program Specialist who will provide leadership and coordination to all aspects of the events, programs, and resources in the 4-H Leadership and Civic Engagement priority area. This position will be hired as a Program Specialist II.

This individual will oversee all aspects of assigned programs and events including budgeting, risk management, implementation, partnership development. This individual will collaborate across department teams on program and event logistics, data and evaluation, and marketing.

This position will be responsible for statewide outreach programs and events which include but are not limited to the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, State 4-H Youth Council, State 4-H Recognition Day, and international exchange programs. The successful candidate will also serve as the staff advisor to the collegiate 4-H club and coordinate the Iowa delegations to National 4-H Conference and National 4-H Congress.

This position provides leadership to the maintenance, curation, development, and implementation of 4-H programs and resources in the priority area of leadership and civic engagement. This individual will provide leadership to a committee of named the Leadership and Civic Engagement Priority Area Team. This position will lead this committee in prioritizing relevant, scaffolded, research-based learning experiences for members and participants. They will lead this committee in providing a consistent 4-H educational experience in this priority area for 4-H participants statewide through the maintenance of our programs and resources. They will lead this committee in providing young people the opportunity to explore related educational and career opportunities, and opportunities to showcase their learning. They will lead this committee in collaborating with internal teams to evaluate and report on outcomes and impacts from programming efforts in this curricular area in alignment with department procedures.

The successful candidate will have exceptional organizational and communication skills, with an ability to work well with a variety of internal and external audiences. The demonstrated ability to plan events and manage and prioritize complex projects and multiple deadlines. They will be able to take initiative on leading projects. Proven leadership and teamwork skills in addition to a demonstrated ability to mobilize and direct programs are required. A creative, enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to adapt quickly to changing needs of the organization will also be needed to be successful in this position.

This is a regular with term appointment(fixed term) position with the opportunity for renewal.

An essential function for this position is the ability to lift 25 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
