Job Description:

Information Technology Services (ITS) at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking qualified candidates for a COBOL Software Developer position. The position will be part of a team providing support for ISU’s Student Information System, Account Receivables System, and other IBM mainframe systems.

Successful candidates

  • Ability to collaborate with ITS team members and business office partners and should possess strong analytical/problem-solving skills with customer-focused results.

  • Manage multiple tasks and decompose large projects into small increments is extremely important.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with technical staff and business office function staff.

  • Strong aptitude for customer support

  • Able to work with a high degree of accuracy and adhere to data confidentiality policies

Depending on the level of experience, the individual may be hired as a Software Developer I or II.

Minimum Requirements:

I: High school diploma or equivalent (PS808)

II: High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience (PS809)

Example of Duties

• Consults with end users and team members to define and document specifications and scope of projects.

• Conducts a variety of software development tasks including program design, program coding, debugging, and documentation for software/systems and applications programs.

• Modifies, maintains, troubleshoots, and supports existing software.

• Assists with the development of detailed systems design specifications to meet defined requirements.

• Assists with the design, development, coding, and testing of new software services, databases, and application systems.

• Writes Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to bridge between vendor systems.
