SummaryUnder the direction of the building Associate Principals, this position is responsible for providing administrative support to staff, students, parents and visitors. This is a 10-month, full-time position.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Works with and supports Ames High associate principals.

  • Provides administrative support to teachers and other staff, students, parents, and the public.

  • Greets and accommodates visitors, handles incoming telephone calls, and takes messages as appropriate.

  • Maintains office filing system.

  • Gathers data for and types correspondence, reports, and schedules.

  • Maintains records for principals or other building staff appropriate to the requirements of the office/building.

  • Maintains budget information and building activity accounts.

  • Assists in problem resolution in the areas of scheduling, busing, student services, or other emergency situations.

  • Contacts and orients substitutes for teaching staff and support staff before school and during working hours as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Experience as a High School Administrative Assistant or equivalent preferred.

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • Knowledge and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with multicultural/ethnic students, staff, and community populations.

  • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment (i.e. personal computer, calculator, other office equipment).

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures to include recordkeeping, filing, and reporting methods including Google Docs, email, spreadsheets, etc.

  • Ability to handle confidential work with tact and discretion.

  • Ability to interact with other staff, students, and the public to obtain and provide information.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.

  • High standards of ethical conduct and exhibits honesty and integrity.

  • Commitment to quality service.

  • High level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently. Works with minimal supervision.

  • Consistent and punctual work attendance.
