Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Simplex fire alarm panels

Minimum 5 years experience troubleshooting, repairing and/or certifying fire sprinkler systems

Experience or training programming/reprogramming fire alarm panels

Experience administering contracts and overseeing contracted services and managing project budgets

Experience managing other NICET certified technicians

Experience with elevator controls systems including troubleshooting, repairing and or certification

Knowledge and experience estimating repairs and installation costs for life safety systems projects

Job Description:

The Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) department at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a Manager Facilities Maintenance for Life Safety Systems. This position provides leadership and direction to the life safety systems work groups. Manages daily operations including contracted and in-house personnel. Assigns and prioritizes work, schedules staff, and establishes quality standards. Example of Duties• Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of a safe and secure environment for students and staff.• Establishes, updates and reviews policies and procedures used by the department in order to assure compliance with university policies and State and Federal laws.• Provides technical service to solve complex maintenance problems.• Conducts surveys and solicits feedback from the university community.• Serves as a resource person and/or recommends solutions to specific problems for students, administrators, and university offices or departments.• Markets building maintenance department services and acts as a liaison for the department with various units, committees or task forces.• Evaluates the effectiveness of specific functional operations, recommends organizational changes and determines equipment needs in order to achieve departmental goals.• Participates in short and long-term strategic planning.• Researches, facilitates and develops the trainings and orientations for new staff.

Level Guidelines• Aware of key annual objectives of department or work unit• Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports• Focus on ISU’s mission and meeting department or work unit goals• Supervises a small department or work team• Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised• Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management• Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy
