The Division of Materials Science and Engineering at Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy National Laboratory affiliated with Iowa State University, is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be in computational condensed matter physics, with a focus on the ab initio investigation of electronic and magnetic properties in 2D materials. The successful candidate will conduct both independent and collaborative research. The individual will present and report research results in addition to publishing scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner. The project is supported by Basic Energy Sciences (BES), DOE.The individual must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work on multiple tasks in a limited amount of time both independently and with team members. The successful candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills in order to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. completed prior to start date.
Ph.D. in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics or closely related field.
Demonstrated experience in electronic-structure theory, methods, and their application to magnetic materials.
Demonstrated experience with ab initio methods beyond density functional theory.
Demonstrated proficiency in scientific programming, scripting, and computing in the UNIX environment.
Demonstrated experience in high-performance programming, with working knowledge of programming with MPI and/or OpenMP or similar methods.
