HNTB Transportation Planning Engineer in Ames, Iowa
What We're Looking For
Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete transportation engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of traffic engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Preferred office locations are Kansas City, Oklahoma City, St. Louis or Des Moines.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Develops micro-simulation models appropriate to specific project needs, including: VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS
Conducts traffic analysis for traffic management plans including projecting and analyzing diversions and summarizing benefits and costs
Prepares detailed signal timing and phasing plans for field implementation
Communicates results in presentations and in writing
Utilizes travel demand modeling tools to aid in development of future traffic volume projections
Independently identifies and analyzes transportation planning issues, including: Determining datasets required to bring forth the best answer; Analyzing and presenting the study result;Providing interpretation on feasibility of implementation or concerns around the result
Writes technical reports and creates presentations of findings (samples may be required) that have been presented to a diverse group of clients and the public
Provides quality control of traffic analyses, including traffic data, forecasts, simulation and operations analysis
Builds effective client relationships

What You'll Need
Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
5 years relevant experience
