Job Description
JOB TITLE: Automation Technician II
REPORTS TO: Automation Supervisor
FLSA: Non-exempt
JOB SUMMARY: This role builds and maintains automation systems to meet the needs of our internal and external customers . Responsibilities include building, troubleshooting and improving production and innovation automation systems. This role also plans and designs components and subsystems. Other responsibilities include creating training materials, mentoring and training others , supporting production processes, and solving problems as a part of multifunctional teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meets all requirements of Automation Technician I.
Checks wiring to print; troubleshoots production wiring problems .
Marks up layouts ; details existing designs on CAD; adds or modifies designs and prints with changes to components such as adding sensors , motors, etc.
Safely interacts with programs using source control system (Azure/Git) ; demonstrates competence with tools used in Automation including IQMS, OneNote, MSOffice, etc.
Sets robot pick points using offsets ; programs move sequences for new applications; troubleshoots picking problems .
Identifies imaging problems and root causes; adjusts AVI settings when necessary, properly determines values, understands root cause; Able to assess if changes could have a quality impact and contact appropriate personal (Quality, Production,etc . ) before implementing changes ; updates AVI programs to match existing program; performs correlations and completes documentation; Understands most image evaluation tools and results .
Interprets logic flow in control program to troubleshoot root cause .
Ensures project goals are met; communicates progress to multiple functions .
L eads projects through completion without supervision in a timely manner ; engages with multiple departments to complete projects.
Understands molding process sequences; u nderstands quality inspection results and process capability.
Trains new technicians on Accumold processes ; creates checklists; requires little supervision ; Works proactively to prevent down time .
Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education/Experience . High school education coursework or GED required . Two-year technical or associate degree in automation, robotics, electronics or related field and two years relevant control systems manufacturing experience preferred. Training in computer controls for industrial processes required.
Computer Skills . Abilit y to operate personal computer. Ability to learn software required to perform job functions (i.e. PLC, HMI, camera, AutoCAD, and Solid Works software) . Experience with Microsoft Office Products required.
Language Skills . Proven written and oral communication skills necessary . Ability to read, comprehend, and utilize instructions and short correspondence with professionals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees .
Mathematical Skills . Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals . A bility to compute rate, ratios, percent and use trigonometry. Ability to read and understand complicated designs and drawings.
Reasoning Ability . Ability to solve technical issues and deal with a number of variables . Ability to follow and interpret verbal and written instructions.
Other Skills and Abilities . Wil lingness to attend conferences or training to enhance and update knowledge and skills. Occasional travel may be requested for company business . Overtime may be required to meet work demands .
Supervisory Responsibilities . Mentor and train employees learning automation techniques. Ability to direct work task to others if you are assigned the lead role in a project.
Physical Demands . While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to sit and stand. Frequent movement throughout the facility is required . Dexterity to perform computer operations and close vision acuity necessary. May be required to move or transport up to 55 lbs.
Work Environment . The duties of this job are executed in a climate-controlled environment with few temperature or humidity extremes. Noise levels will vary from very low to moderate depending on the location that the work is performed within the facility . The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate . Employee may have contact with machining residues such as steel chips, grinding dust, EDM smoke, cutting oils and coolants. Safety glasses are required.
