Experience with management and oversight of the personnel resources and budgets including open ended problem solving of budget issues.
The Digital Agriculture Innovations Team within the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Manager Engineering who will provide technical and program management leadership to engineering research project teams in advanced sensors, electronics, and controls. The ISU Digital Agriculture Innovation Team (www.isudigitalag.org) consists of professional staff and graduate students who work closely with agricultural industry partners to develop innovative technology solutions for agriculture. The team has a strong innovation record with over 30 patents and licensed technologies.
This position will provide key technical and program leadership to an engineering team focused on the design and implementation of software and control systems, data acquisition, testing, data analysis, and reporting associated with sponsored research in the field of advanced machinery engineering. These responsibilities include providing leadership in engineering program management associated with electronic system integration, prototype software and hardware design, field test design and execution, validation of sensors and data collection, and analysis of complex data. Management of project scope, deliverables, schedule, and resources will be a major component of this position. Significant interactions with industrial project sponsors is expected. This position will directly lead multiple engineering staff and will be expected to manage technical delivery of project teams with limited oversight while adhering to all standards of program quality.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently; complete projects within a specified timeline; meet project design criteria; communicate effectively and provide technical leadership to design team members; and ensure a safe working environment for project staff. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, integrity, and ethics.
This is an initial three year term position, with expectation for renewal based on availability of funding.
