Responsible for maintaining reception desk activities, including greeting, scheduling, and instructing patients and visitors in accordance with BCH customer service standards.: Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED): Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Essential Functions: * Responsible for creating a culture of innovation, learning, teamwork, quality and professional practice, consistent with the mission, vision and values of Boone County Hospital. * Maintains appropriate working relationships with physicians, staff and patients. * Provides and maintains effective communication with members of the health care team to facilitate safe, effective and appropriate patient care. * Punctual regular attendance. * Demonstrates sound fiscal management of clinic operations in cooperation with director for comprehensive budgetary planning and regular monitoring of financial productivity, including collecting and monitoring monthly statistics. * Inventories and orders medical office supplies and materials. * Communicates patient arrival to appropriate staff. * Directs or escorts patients to other areas of clinic or hospital. * Assists with scheduling appointments and scanning orders of infusions/injections for Outpatient Infusion Center. * Obtains x-ray, laboratory, orders, results and other medical records as needed for outreach physician clinics. * Actively supports and participates in continuous quality improvement efforts. * Keep reception area and lobby in order and free of safety hazards. * Interviews patient or representative to obtain complete and accurate information including name, address, birth date, religion, persons to notify in case of emergency, admitting Physician, and individual or insurance company responsible for payment of bill. * Enters patient registration information into the computer and updates information as required. * Obtains appropriate signatures for medical and financial documents to protect hospital’s interests. * Uses multi line telephone system including answering telephone, screening call, transfers calls, takes messages, and provides appropriate information. * Screens patients for appointment scheduling. Makes appointments for physicians according to pre-set guidelines preferred by physician. Schedules patient follow-up studies and appointments according to physician request. * Obtain medical and insurance information for physician office staff. * Keeps reception area and lobby in order and free of safety hazards. * Call patients to remind them of their appointments. * Send out new patient forms as designated per physician. * Receives and retains physician orders/referrals until time of appointment. * Greets patients presenting to Boone County Hospital for laboratory and radiology studies and provides them with appropriate paperwork for studies being performed. * Maintain performance in compliance with State and Federal laws, consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics. * Follows Policies and Procedures of Boone County Hospital and Department. * Maintain effective communication with all levels of supervision and staff. * Participate in hospital staff meetings and in-services as required. * Receives and retains physician orders/referrals until time of appointment. * Preforms related work as required.
