Cedar Falls Utilities Property Maintenance Worker in Cedar Falls, Iowa

Overview

Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for a full-time Property Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities department. This position performs building and installed systems maintenance, repair and improvements and also assists with property and grounds maintenance as required. Preferred candidates would have experience in diagnosing, maintaining and repairing HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

The Property Maintenance Worker reports to the Maintenace Support Services Manager.

Compensation & Benefits

  • CFU offers on-the-job training through a 4-step apprenticeship program, consisting of on-the-job training and instruction.

  • Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. Full position rate is $37.54/hour.

  • Work schedule is 4 10-hour workdays. This position is subject to emergency callouts.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing routine and specialized building maintenance assignments.

  • Performs painting, carpentry and repairs of building equipment.

  • Helps modify doors, desks, workstations, and offices.

  • Assists other contractors or technicians who are completing more specialized assignments.

  • Responsible for the proper mowing and care of all CFU properties; Applies fertilizer and other turf treatments as needed.

  • Trims and cares for related trees and shrubs.

  • Performs routine maintenance on all mechanical equipment used.

  • Plows snow from parking lots and roadways plus any other necessary road maintenance.

  • Completes specialized work, if qualified to perform these tasks such as plumbing, electrical, welding, concrete finishing, etc.

  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, co-workers and management.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school; trade or vocational school education is preferred.

    Experience:

  • A minimum of one year experience in building maintenance and/or grounds maintenance responsibilities.

    Certifications/Licenses:

  • Required to have a valid Iowa driver's license and meet insurance guidelines, a Class A CDL with air brakes endorsement preferred. Required to possess and maintain chemical/pesticide applicators certification for #3T-Ornamental and Turf Pest Control and #6 - Right-of-Way Pest Control.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of:Working knowledge of recommended building and property maintenance practices; must have proficient mechanical and carpentry skills; must be able to work independently.

  • Ability to: Operate and maintain various types of tools, equipment, and machinery; work independently; and needs the ability to communicate effectively with outside contractors and vendors that are required for defined improvement or maintenance projects; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and possess the capability and agility to perform physical work; Work environment is indoor and outdoor, and during inclement weather. There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift objects throughout the day. There is a risk of exposure to dangerous machinery and inclement weather when visiting construction sites. Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    This position requires a hearing exam and a pulmonary lung funtion test, which is required for respirator use.

    A pre-employement physical and drug screen are required.
