Serves as the technical resource to the Design, Manufacturing, Program Management, Supply Chain, Quality, etc. communities for electrical and mechanical component, materials and related process support. The Application Engineer establishes design criteria, specifications, sources of supply, and acceptance criteria for assigned commodities. They are responsible for the documentation of components, processes, technology roadmaps, and design guidelines associated with assigned commodities. They direct Failure and Root Cause analysis and provide technical assistance with; material verification resolution, specification or drawing exceptions, supplier issues, and manufacturing related issues for assigned technologies. The Application Engineer identifies, evaluates, and recommends new components for new product development requirements and for improving existing manufacturing process yields. They support assigned Commodity Teams as the technical lead. Uses independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time under general supervision.
Establish preferred technologies, sources of supply, and acceptance criteria for assigned commodities.
Document and release of components, processes, technology roadmaps, and design guidelines associated with assigned commodities.
Perform Failure and Root Cause Analysis of moderate complexity and corrective action on assigned commodities.
Provide technical assistance with: material verification resolution, specification or drawing exceptions, supplier issues, and manufacturing related issues for assigned commodities.
Identify, evaluate, and recommend new components or materials and manufacturers for new product requirements and for improving existing manufacturing process yields.
Support assigned Commodity Teams and Communities of Practice as the technical lead.
Analyzes parametric data, preference codes, and obsolescence prediction data for components in assigned area.
Design Engineering community support including: design development assistance, interfacing, communication, component application issue resolution, and general question/issue resolution.
General technical support including activities associated with Bidding/Negotiating, Data Collection, and Analysis. Report Generation related to technical issues including but not limited to; Hazardous Material, fungus, shelf life, ESD, flammability, etc.
Actively contributes to and participates in projects as a team member or expert on call.
Individual job duties may vary.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.
US Citizenship or Permanent Residence is required. Must be able to demonstrate strong problem solving skills and confidence in communicating with others to understand problems and work towards solutions. Must exhibit strong attention to detail. Preferred candidate will have a Mechanical or Materials Engineering degree and experience with data analysis in Microsoft Excel. Requires a Bachelor's Degree or three years of prior relevant experience.
