The Benefits Specialist is an individual contributor role with primary responsibility of managing the day-to-day of the US leave of absence, disability, time off, and life/AD&D programs. The position will have a heavy emphasis on tactical and operational tasks. The ideal candidate has a broad benefits background, and demonstrated success managing vendors.
The benefits department at Applied Materials has a team-based culture and this role will also provide support to the US and Global benefits programs, health care (medical, dental and vision), income protection, retirement, and paid time off policies.
This position can be remote within the USA. Headquarters is based in Santa Clara, California.
Key Responsibilities
US Leave of Absence, Time Off, & Income Protections Programs (70%)
Support the US Benefits manager and external vendor partners in administering the Applied Materials leave of absence, disability, time off, and life/AD&D programs for US employees.
Ensure that the leave and disability programs are administered accurately, consistently, and uniformly and in line with established policies and procedures including applicable laws and regulations.
Process payments for paid parental leave and paid family care leave in the payroll system. Experience with SAP preferred.
Audit leave entries in the HR system. Workday experience preferred.
Reconcile overpayment issues relating to leaves.
Acts as the first point of contact in resolving complex inquiries from employees, managers, and internal stakeholders (Payroll, HR, and etc).
Responds to inquiries from local State Benefits Programs and from third party vendors.
Partner with accounting firm, Applied Finance, and vendors to complete annual STD plan audit and STD tax return filing.
Other duties (30%)
Monitor escalated tickets from internal HR Direct service center; respond or redirect accordingly.
Present new hire benefits orientation on a rotating basis with other team members
Assist Director, Global Benefits with international benefits and projects
Participate in ongoing and/or ad hoc projects as determined by the needs of the benefits department.
Knowledge
Knowledge of federal and state leave policies, practices, procedures, and laws.
Knowledge of state statutory disability and paid family leave laws.
Knowledge of U.S. benefits policies, practices, procedures, laws and regulations and system tools.
Experience with ERISA self-insured health and welfare plans and vendor management.

Education and Experience
B.A./B.S. level degree in related field or equivalent experience
2 to 4 years of experience in Benefits, including leave of absence and disability administration
High technology industry experience
Experience in support of a variety of client functions
