Pearson Manager, Scanning Operations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct the operational and strategic functional process areas of the department including labor management, equipment management, maintenance, and purchasing.

  • Oversees department procedures and associated ISO Certifications standards.

  • Manage the planning, establishment, control, and forecasting of all area budgeted expenditures, assets, and capital.

  • Plan and implement improvement in service time and cost levels through the ongoing application of technological capabilities and continuous improvement processes as they evolve.

  • Direct, manage, coach, and evaluate large numbers of employees for improved organizational effectiveness through productivity and cross-training in a constantly changing workload environment to meet critical and dynamic commitments.

  • Direct capacity planning via our OSCAR Planning system in cooperation with Management Planning & Support (MPS).

  • Direct department effectiveness in assuring ultimate quality, on-time performance, technological change, and customer problem resolution prior to submission to processing.

  • Assure area adherence to and genuine support of division EEO/AAP, contracts, purchasing, accounting, and human resources policies and practices

  • Must be able to provide leadership and supervision towards a common set of department goals and objectives.

  • Plan, organize and control for improved organizational effectiveness through productivity in utilizing human resources in a constantly changing workload environment.

  • Support all department operations areas through sharing of resources to meet division commitments.

  • Support continuous improvement in productivity and product quality.

  • Monitor department performance and make continuous improvement recommendations based on team performance.

  • Interact with both internal and external customers and vendors.

  • Provide planning and direction for shift employees (or Shift managers) within functional areas of labor management, project scheduling, and planning and monitoring department Performance Metrics.

  • May be required to work other timeframes as required for the purpose of training, development, and resolving problems.

  • Support the planning, establishment, control, and forecasting of all area expenditures and assets, particularly as they pertain to labor and overtime.

  • Support the development of client proposals through product design support, resource estimating and proposal development which includes the development of RFP's (Request for Proposals) and SLA's (Service Level Agreements).

  • Plan, organize and control for improved organizational effectiveness through productivity in utilizing human resources in a constantly changing workload environment.

  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and analyzing productivity measurements within the department.

  • Support capacity planning by monitoring volume forecasts, receipts, and potential opportunities.

  • Establish and reinforce the highest level of quality in all aspects of department responsibility.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures within functional areas of the department.

  • Documents, reports, and resolve when possible, problems encountered during shift assignment.

  • Contact appropriate individuals to resolve problems as necessary.

Education, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or appropriate combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Two years of experience in the areas of system development, customer service, or operations preferred.

  • Knowledge of general business procedures and managerial techniques.

  • Leadership, communication, and change management skills.

  • Planning, Organizing, and Managing people, equipment, and technology is essential

  • Familiarization with operational aspects of data processing and lean manufacturing

  • Ability to utilize PC software such as word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and project planning.

  • Must be able to make space adjustments with production flows.

  • Willingness to be flexible during peak processing periods.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with data processing operations similar to those at Pearson preferred.

  • Experience with ISO certification and processes is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Oracle Planning and Forecasting is a plus.

  • Leadership and creative problem-solving skills are required.

  • Travel to offsite facilities, customer and vendor sites as necessary.
