UnityPoint Health RN-Staff Development Coordinator-Surgery Center CR in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

The Staff Development Coordinator works collaboratively with the Executive Director, Clinical Managers, and Infection Control/Quality Coordinator, to develop, implement, and evaluate an evidence-based onboarding, orientation, preceptor program, and annual required education for the clinical departments.The program will be aligned with current regulatory, accrediting, and professional standards.The Staff Development Coordinator is an expert in perioperative and/or perianesthesia nursing, skilled in project management, and seeks creative solutions to problems.

Initial Orientation

·Develops Operating Room (OR) and Perianesthesia (PA) foundational skills orientation program.Conducts needs assessment, variance reporting, current evidence, regulatory and accrediting guidance, and professional standards in development.

·Implements the skills program in an organized fashion using principles of adult learning.

·Evaluates the orientation program using evidence-based methods, revising program as needed in response to feedback.

·Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises competency assessment methods and forms.

·Completes documentation associated with orientation period according to current policy.



·Demonstrates FOCUS values in communication and interactions with orientees and colleagues

·Communicates orientation expectations effectively with orientees, preceptors, and clinical leadership

·Conducts regular progress evaluation conferences with orientee, preceptor, and manager throughout the orientation period, using coaching techniques to develop orientees and preceptors


Quality of Care

·Collaborates with leaders to design evidence-based, safe clinical systems and processes, policies and procedures that are compliant with current professional, regulatory, and accrediting standards

·Participates with the infection control/quality coordinator in performance improvement initiatives including committees, data collection and analysis, and uses PI tools such as PDSA, A3, Risk Assessment, variance reporting and follow up


Basic UPH Performance Criteria

·Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

·Demonstrates ability to meet needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.

·Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

·Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, AAAHC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

·Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

·Is knowledgeable of ambulatory and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of the ASC administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.



Minimum Requirements

·Undergraduate nursing degree, BSN preferred

·Specialization in nursing education


·Five or more years of perioperative and/or perianesthesia experience

·One or more years of preceptor experience

·Experience with performance improvement tools and processes

·Leadership experience


·Specialty certification in perioperative education/CNOR or perianesthesia

·Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.


·Knowledgeable about perioperative and perianesthesia patient care

·Knowledge of the current regulatory, accrediting, and professional standards for perioperative and perianesthesia nursing
