Alliant Energy has a great opportunity for a Senior Category Manager to join our team. In this role you are responsible for integration of internal client initiatives, strategy, and business direction with supply management. Leads and cultivates strategic partnerships with the client and vendors in order to create new value for the company by advancing business objectives. Works with client subject matter specialists and leadership to assess business requirements and develops strategic plans for ongoing category needs. Works seamlessly with contract management and business performance teams in order to complete projects successfully. This role offers high visibility and experience with some of the more complex material categories within Alliant. Experience with complex assemblies or materials a plus.
This position offers a blend of working from home, and in the Cedar Rapids, IA or Madison, WI office.
Job Responsibilities
Supports supply chain category and relationship management functions by bringing considerable subject matter expertise and mentorship to others in the group.
Develops comprehensive category strategies that align with partner goals and strategies by using market intelligence, demand management, sustainability, supplier diversity and total cost of ownership.
Clearly and effectively communicate directly with Senior Leaders within the company to get clarity and gain alignment on business strategies and decisions.
Able to operate independently and autonomously with minimal leadership oversight in the majority of situations.
Leads the effort to execute and evaluate strategic Requests for Information (RFI) and Requests for Proposal (RFP).
Provides recommendations and supports programs to evaluate new and existing vendors as well as their products and services to implement strategic opportunities across business organizations.
Drives strategic category management plans to promote value creation both through decreasing costs (via improved vendor selection and management, as well as process efficiencies) and increasing top-line growth.
Integrates strategic plans in conjunction with client groups to meet ongoing sourcing needs. Facilitates routine business review meetings with clients and key suppliers.
Works on cross-functional teams in order to effectively engage key partners to advance supply chain initiatives that support the company’s strategic objectives.
Manages relationship requirements (supply chain, customer, supplier, legal, risk, environmental, safety, etc.) within category activities. Performs, learns from and makes changes based on periodic scorecard assessments of suppliers and relationships within assigned categories.
Works with Business Units and Functional Leadership to determine metrics required to assure optimal performance.
Help to identify and manage business risk through specific program development including but not limited to focus on supply continuity, demand management, geopolitical issues, and market risks.
Manages the supplier base by consistently developing new suppliers and improving and strengthening current relationships.
Builds comprehensive cost models to guide better understanding and results with supplier negotiations and business modeling.
Develops and builds benchmarks on costs/utilization of categories employing industry best practices.
Helps develop, implement, and maintain best in class internal supply chain processes and controls.
Work with and act as a partner concern for supply chain issues with the Supply Chain Procurement Operations team and functional business areas.
Understand the spans and layers of how assigned categories build off of one another to create a living ecosystem.
Required Qualifications:
- 7 years of related experience in purchasing or supply chain.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree emphasis in Business Administration, Purchasing or Supply Chain.
Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), (CTE), or Certified in Production and Inventory. Management (CPIM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) designation.
Experience with complex assembly and manufacturing processes and supply chains.
Awareness to global supply chains and international requirements and customs.
Eagerness to learn and explore new areas and always stay curious.
