Raytheon Technologies Senior Principal Systems Engineer (Onsite) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join the Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a Senior Principal Systems Engineer, you will develop system requirements, models, designs, and validate these multi-domain Nuclear Command and Control (NC3) mission systems solutions used on the aircraft and ground stations being developed for our country’s strategic defense systems. This role includes focus on customer needs and requirements in order to design, develop, document and test both hardware and software systems, ranging from black box to the complex end-to-end platform systems.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for motivating team members, facilitating meetings, cultivating and reinforcing appropriate group values, behaviors, methods, and processes while identifying, analyzing and correcting problems.

This position will support the development of future of armed forces NC3 defense systems. This position will require on-site work in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The project spans the entire development lifecycle, including pursuit and order capture, system design, requirements definition, requirement allocation, requirement traceability, use case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification testing and qualification. The position will work closely with fellow systems engineers, Technical Project Engineers (PEs), Integrated Product Team Leads (IPTLs), Control Account Managers (CAMs), Value Stream Leaders, software leads, hardware leads, electrical and support staff to assure defined requirements and designs are consistently met in all phases of the product lifecycle.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a lead systems engineer to capture, analyze, decompose, model, translate and create requirements and designs for large complex mission and communication systems.

  • Leads systems engineers in the development of functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software solutions.

  • Manage requirements and design changes while reporting technical risk areas.

  • Apply SysML concepts for System Modeling across a full engineering lifecycle

  • May serve as system lead in integration, verification and validation for large complex systems.

  • Author technical proposals/estimates and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.

  • Estimate, track, manage and report status relating to technical, cost, schedule, and risk performance for assigned scope of work.

  • Recommend and shepherd new methods, approaches, tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement in system and test development processes.

  • Mentors product development teams in the utilization of the appropriate processes and tools, thus increasing product quality and improving customer satisfaction.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • US Citizenship

  • Must have an active US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Expertise in systems engineering and open systems architectures

  • Operational concept development

  • System and product design

  • Requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and configuration management.

  • Prior experience with control account management

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Operational experience with embedded (low-level) software development, application software development, and/or hardware development

  • Experience with aircraft level system integration

  • Development of integration and test plans, test cases, and procedures

  • Executing product and system level tests to include experience with automation test tools or scripting

  • Experience using DOORS, Cameo, Enterprise Architect and JIRA or similar tools

  • Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering, UPDM, DODAF, SysML, AADL

  • Experience with bidding utilizing SEER tools

  • Experience with regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO254, DO178B/C, and ARP4754

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with SW, Integration and Verification teams

  • Experience and exposure to other related disciplines such as human factors, system safety, reliability & maintainability, and cybersecurity.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies

  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 661 standard and bus protocols

  • Experience with TCP/IP network applications development

  • Software or Systems experience with Point Cloud Systems

  • Test Automation (Python) experience
