BAE Systems Senior Software Engineer - Design Quality Assurance in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with software engineering experience and a passion for design excellence to join the Design Quality Assurance (DQA) team. This team ensures the software quality control and quality assurance alignment of GPS products and programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal reviews and audits applied to all aspects of the GPS products software development lifecycle.

  • Ensure prescribed standards and techniques are used through GPS products software development lifecycle.

  • Lead and facilitate any software defect corrective and preventive actions, reporting out to various levels within the organization and to customers.

  • Plan and execute audit strategy, report on progress, status, issues, and document audit results.

  • Support software and trade study developments of GPS products applications

  • Collaborate with impacted parties to improve and maintain Quality Management System (QMS) Policy, Plans, Procedures, and Work Instructions

  • Serve as lead coordinator and facilitator of formal customer led or independent 3rd Party audits.

  • Support the QMS to assure proper documentation to achieve and sustain compliance with ISO 9001:2015 certification and CMMI Maturity Level 3

  • Participate and contribute to Change Review Board (CRB) meetings for projects, products and/or programs

  • Contribute to engineering program pursuits and bid estimates

Expanded Job Responsibilities

  • Support software design approaches for the GPS products organization

  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines (ie electrical, software and systems engineering) to ensure the software design is appropriate for the project/product design approach

  • Participate in cross-functional team efforts in integration, pre-qualification and qualification for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity

  • Conduct root-cause-analysis and technical investigations for software designs

  • Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write technical material and present to customers and mid-level managers

  • Able to work and communicate with representatives from various departments including Business Development, Finance, and Operations

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience in software development life cycle including requirements capture and verification, design and development, sub-level and system level integration and testing

  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner and produce detailed, clear and concise technical documentation

  • Be self-directed, able to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight

  • Familiarity with revision control concepts and tools (e.g. Subversion)

  • US Citizenship is required

  • Must be capable of obtaining a U.S. DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical, or Computer Engineering

  • Familiarity with ISO9000/9001 and/or AS9100

  • Experience performing audits to ISO9000/9001 and/or AS9100

  • Familiarity with DO-178 Design Assurance Guidance

  • Experience with software design and verification

  • Experience with Safety Certifications (FAA, Auto, etc)

  • Experience with Defence Contract Management Agency (DCMA) processes and procedures (government billing and audit rules)

  • Proficient in DOORS
