Transportation Scheduler at Polk Alternative Education Center
Location: Polk
Overview: Coordinating and schedule transport of CRCSD students for morning and afternoon routes including tie ins for Polk, along with filling in as a driver as needed.
Classification:
Van Driver
Nine (9) month work agreement
8 hours per day
Compensation in accordance with work agreement
This is a safety sensitive position:
Employee will be enrolled in a random pool of employees performing similar job functions and subject to computer-generated random selections for alcohol and/or drug testing
Subject to reasonable suspicion alcohol and/or drug testing
Salary:
$18.73/hour

Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Thorough knowledge of district, state, and federal procedures, laws, and regulations
Effective, efficient, and proactive oral and written communication skills
Enthusiastically curious while staying in your lane
Motivated to ask questions
Proficiency with standard computer operating systems and software
Willingness to learn new skills and unfamiliar systems
Coachable, respects and implements leadership’s decisions, and willing to constantly adapt to change
Represent the district in a professional manner
Strong team player
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
Ability to adjust work hours to meet the needs of the district and the transportation department.

Commitment to district and department mission statement
Must be at least 18 years of age
Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class D3 Chauffeur’s license
Obtain and maintain a valid DOT physical and valid Medical Certificate
Pass pre-employment and all subsequent agility tests
Pass pre-employment and subsequent driving history checks
Pass pre-employment and periodic background history checks
Pass a pre-employment substance abuse screening
Pass all random alcohol and/or drug tests
Pass all reasonable suspicion alcohol and/or drug tests
Work well with others, including all personality types
Effective problem-solving skills
Knowledge of, or ability to navigate, Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas
Have and use effective verbal and written communication skills
Effectively manage student behavior
Accept and implement coaching and training
Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections
Professional driving experience preferred, but not required
Essential Duties:
Route students according to student needs and legal requirements
Build and maintain routes for efficient and balanced utilization of staff and equipment
Provide all necessary information for drivers to operate and maintain routes
Communicate with Polk and Transportation staff and proactively resolve transportation issues.
Proactively refer unresolved van routing issues to Van Fleet Supervisor or Transportation Manager.
Work in bus routing system, equipment management system, tracking system, word processing, email, spreadsheets, and other programs as necessary
Ensures operation within the laws, policies, procedures, and union contracts related to the district’s transportation service
Manage van and bus resources
Assist Transportation Payroll Secretary with start/end times and various payroll related requests
Substitute Van Driver as needed
Other duties, as assigned
Environment:
Work under the immediate direction of the Polk Principal and Van Fleet Supervisor
Primarily on site at Polk Alternative Education office and bus loading zones
Work up to 8 hours per day with a minimum of a 30 minute unpaid break based on Polk’s needs
Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time
Entering and exiting vehicles regularly
Descend from back door of vehicle in emergencies onto uncertain surfaces
Repeatedly lifting and carrying students or object(s) weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feet
Repeatedly pushing and pulling wheelchairs/objects(s) weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feet
Continuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively
Using both hands and legs simultaneously
Repeated stooping, bending, and kneeling
Occasional pushing, pulling and maintaining balance
Rapid mental/muscular coordination
Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Accurate depth perception
Clarity of vision at varying distances to see small details
Operate mobile motorized equipment
Drive a vehicle to conduct work
Hazards:
Possible contact with blood borne pathogens and/or bodily fluids
Contact with chemicals used for cleaning buses
