Reporting to the President, The Vice President of Continuing Education & Training Services is responsible for leading the Continuing Education and Training Services division which includes Grants, Continuing Education, Corporate Training, Health Occupations, Operations, Adult High School Completion/ESL, Title I-Skills-to-Employment and the Small Business Development Center departments. The Vice President provides leadership and strategic direction for career and technical education and avocational noncredit instruction and workforce programs as well as regional workforce training initiatives and business and industry partnerships to advance and support workforce development. The Vice President works with the President’s Cabinet to determine vision, strategy, short and long-range goals to ensure that the college has innovative workforce training and educational programs that respond to the changing needs of students, communities and businesses.

  • Implement the College’s strategic initiatives in meeting the needs of students, communities, business and industry concerning workforce programs and career and technical education.

  • In collaboration with the Academic Affairs and Student Services, guide the development of programming for noncredit short-term CTE guided pathway programs ensuring quality standards are met.

  • Lead the development and coordination of partnerships with business, industry, and community organizations as they relate to career pathways and programs.

  • Provide leadership and supervision of state and federal job training programs as well as local, state, and federal institutional grant applications and awards.

  • Ensure grants, career and technical education and workforce programs, and small business services adhere to federal and state regulations in use of funds.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with economic development and workforce organizations, human and social service organizations to advance the college’s mission, vision and values.

  • Provide leadership of the Title I and Title II departments of the federal Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act programs (High School Completion and Skills-to-Employment).

  • Build consensus around strategic initiatives and operational processes for developing, implementing and scheduling programs that meet the workforce training and education needs of the district and providing guidance to the Continuing Education & Training Services leadership team including face-to-face, hybrid, and fully on-line delivery modalities.

  • Establish key performance indicators and budgets for the division that align with the college’s strategic plan and monitor performance and efficiency to improve programs and services as well as increase return on investment.

  • Conduct workforce research and utilize regional data to create viable programs that address workforce challenges and build/expand workforce programs to meet emerging workforce needs.

  • Work closely with Iowa’s Community College workforce and economic development peers to leverage the strength and capacity of the community colleges for the benefit of the state and specifically the Kirkwood Community College region.

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.


  • Five years’ experience at the administrative level required; three years must include supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in workforce/economic development, talent development, career and technical education or higher education required.


  • Master’s with Doctorate preferred.
