Under limited supervision, performs student support and general office work at the administrative support level. This includes, but is not limited to coordination of distance learning and other college credit classes, continuing education activities, routine correspondence, student assessments, general software support to students, and maintaining confidential student and center records. A high degree of independent judgment and cooperation with other college employees, departments as well as with facility partners Grant Wood AEA and the University of Iowa is expected. This individual must possess the ability to work as a member of a team providing a high level of front-line customer service. This position may require working up to two evenings per week and other work hours as assigned to accommodate the Center's hours and operations.

  • Assist in scheduling, promotion, registration and starting of all Kirkwood offerings.

  • Serve as distance learning site coordinator including orientation, materials distribution and test monitoring.

  • Assist with scheduling and supervising building personnel and work study students.

  • Assist with budgets and process payroll for credit and non-credit offerings.

  • Assist with student support activities including general software support, preliminary academic advising, financial aid, ADA accommodations and tutoring.

  • Serve as a liaison for all partnership activities, including community, college, high school partnerships, facility tenants including Grant Wood AEA, iCAN and the University of Iowa.

  • Monitor and schedule routine building maintenance.

  • Function as a receptionist for the center.

  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.


  • Be able and willing to represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve.

  • Ability to organize and present various concepts of advising to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities.

  • Possess thorough knowledge of office methods and procedures, office equipment and telephone techniques.

  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer for word-processing, data base information and mainframe.

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in an atmosphere of frequent interruption.

  • Possess knowledge of, and ability to make decision consistent with, college policies and procedures.

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. May travel to main campus facilities, off-campus facilities, and schools and businesses to meet with College and community personnel occasionally (12-33%).


  • High school diploma or equivalency required. Any combination of three years of full-time office experience or an appropriate Associate degree. Must have at least one year experience using word processing/microcomputer equipment. Must have a valid driver's license and own transportation.


  • Will certify to meet the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) Blood borne Pathogen Standard.
