Mission Systems Microelectronics Packaging is seeking to fill a Staff Mechanical Engineering position. This group is responsible for the Microelectronics Packaging technology activities throughout Collins Aerospace. This engineer will be involved in all aspects of microelectronics packaging and must possess strong material skills including the desire to develop state of the art miniaturized electronic devices. Responsible for driving improvement in design and product quality.

This role will be performed on site at our Collins location at Coralville, IA

Primary Responsibilities:

• Participate in Microelectronics product development activities including packaging concepts and package road mapping efforts

• Develop technologies/processes required for next generation packages

• Coordinate prototype package builds and evaluation efforts

• Qualify microelectronic packages

• Support factory transition of products

• Provide manufacturing support for Microelectronic assemblies/materials currently in production

• May evaluate and analyze various mechanical products to determine their cost-effectiveness and efficiency

• Execute test and qualification for systems, sub-systems, and components. Review test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and recommend modification or adjustments of equipment to meet specifications

• Acts as subject matter expert for microelectronics packaging, including laminate singulation, component marking, solder attach, and molding processes.

• Review and publish process standardization documentation for best practices

• Must be able to travel <5%, both domestically and internationally.

  Qualifications/Experience Needed:

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience OR an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

• Must be a US Citizen

• Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

• Microelectronics design and manufacturing assembly

• Microelectronic packaging materials and material properties

• Electronic component reliability testing

• Post wafer fabrication processes

• Failure analysis techniques

• Additive Manufacturing

• Effective communication (written, verbal, and interpersonal)

• Be highly motivated; self-directed; and able to balance multiple tasks

• Work well within a diverse team environment

• Knowledge of Microelectronic materials
