Job Title: Product Manager - SYB

Location: Coralville, IA ​Mobile/Remote (On-Site/Work from Home Hybrid)

-Mobile associates must live in an area that does not exceed a 100-mile (150 km) radius of an IDT location. *May require on-site occasional presence for team meetings, etc.

Purpose statement:

The Product Manager – Synthetic Biology is responsible for managing their assigned portfolio from product definition through development, commercialization, launch and post-launch support.

Develops specific commercialization plans and activities for specific product(s) or product line(s) to establish, enhance or distinguish product placement within the competitive arena. Develops business plans and product positioning in the marketplace. Oversees market research, monitors competitive activity and identifies customer needs. Establishes pricing strategies. Works with engineering, manufacturing and sales to develop new products or enhance existing product(s) or product line(s).

Essential Functions:

  • Manages one or more Synthetic Biology product lines; expected to participate in or drive additional projects

  • Manages the life cycle of products from launch to discontinuation by optimizing marketing efforts, pricing and discount schedules, driving efficiency and cost reduction efforts and product format

  • Identifies emerging trends or technologies and develops a plan to address corresponding customer needs

  • Understands customers and translates their product needs into market opportunity. Transforms market opportunities and customer needs into profitable solutions and satisfied customer

  • Defines customer requirements and product specifications to enable the development of the excellent products

  • Champions product development within their product line internally and externally

  • Works cross-functionally members of various functional departments within IDT and customers to ensure products can and do meet customer requirements/specifications

  • Ensures product support for intended applications

  • Uses Danaher Business System (Customer insight, Launch Excellence, Visual Projects Management…) tool to ensure optimal and successful product development and launch

  • Trains and supports the sales force, customer support, and key customers. Provides marketing manager with guidance and content, manages collaborations and represents IDT at conferences and tradeshows

  • Demonstrates and upholds behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values and delivers the Integrated DNA Technologies experience to customers and other business associates.

  • Works independently and with limited supervision

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or business studies required (PhD and/or MBA preferred)

    Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Life Sciences (Required),

  • Prior experience as Product Manager or involvement in the successful development of new products (Preferred)

  • Ability to deliver scientific podium presentations and generally communicate at peer to peer level with customers

  • Ability to work effectively across a large organization and ability to interact with all levels of management.

  • Experienced and effective communicator in high level customer interactions, including sensitive negotiating and support situations.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and activities.

  • Strong problem solving skills and willingness to tackle new challenges.

  • Ability to lead teams to overcome issues.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situation in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.

  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.

  • Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers.

  • Ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently
