R&D Software Engineer

About IDx:

The Research and Development Software Engineer will assist with our R&D and algorithmic development efforts. Working in a team setting, the position will participate in the development of the novel machine learning and computer vision algorithms which form the core of IDx?s medical device products. This position also includes the design of efficient experiments to analyze current algorithm performance, report on results and assist in determining future direction for algorithmic enhancement.

This position reports to the Director of R & D.

What We Are Looking For:

The R&D software engineer will primarily be responsible for implementing and improving deep learning algorithms within current and future IDx products. Given that we are a small team, this person will be expected to contribute in a variety of ways including building and maintaining R&D software infrastructure, staying up-to-date on the latest techniques and available toolsets, aiding in the setting of ground-truth, and interacting with medical professionals and business leaders to define projects.

Of paramount importance in this role are abilities to:

  • communicate with technical and medical professionals,

  • quickly learn new concepts and technologies,

  • utilize professional software development practices,

  • read, understand, and implement academic literature,

  • produce clear documentation,

  • work as part of a larger team.

Requirements:

  • PhD in technical field, or MS in technical field with 2+ years industry experience, or 5+ years industry experience.

  • Interest in medical device design and creating products that impact patients

  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong programming skillset.

Preferences:

  • Experience with a major machine learning framework (e.g. TensorFlow, MXNet, Caffe2, PyTorch)

  • Python, or C++ experience

  • Image processing experience (e.g. OpenCV, ITK)

  • Specific expertise in any of the following fields: Medical image analysis, algorithm design, segmentation, object detection, computer vision

  • Knowledge of medical device/software development industry
