Sales Development Representative

Reports to: Manager of Inside Sales

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Division: Marketing & Sales

Purpose statement:

The Sales Development Representative is responsible for carrying out lead validation and telephone-based lead generation campaigns from Marketing and Support leads.

Essential Functions:

  • Qualify incoming form submissions generated from Marketing efforts.

  • Qualify incoming leads generated by Marketing scoring mechanisms or Support cases.

  • Probe into contact’s needs and interests relating to Life Science application.

  • Execute against established processes and call scripts to qualify the lead.

  • Collect relevant contact information necessary for Sales Representative outreach and/or future marketing activities.

  • Execute Telephone Lead Generation campaigns:

  • Conduct tactical campaign telephone follow-up to prospect for sales ready leads

  • Navigate to correct individual within lab or company that is responsible for purchasing decisions and those who are performing the actual research

  • Provide feedback to team Manager on quality of telephone script and potential improvements to increase conversion

  • Embrace feedback from peers, supervisor, or collaborating departments on how to improve communications and selling skills

  • Manage follow-up activities in a rigorous manner prior to turning over leads to the sales team

  • Maintain company CRM by adding leads, contacts, and organizations to the system as identified or update existing records as information is obtained.

  • Execute established data maintenance process to improve and refresh the database

  • Ensure accurate data entry for all leads / Customer contact information to support future Sales and Marketing efforts

  • Participates in sales activities including tradeshows, customer field visits, regional and global sales meeting.

  • Develops technical knowledge by studying new product descriptions and participating in educational opportunities.

  • Maintains and improves quality results by following standard work.

  • Participates in training and ongoing staff meetings.

  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related field required

Professional Experience:

  • Two or more years of telemarketing or telesales in B2B market preferred.

  • Proficiency in a variety of PC software programs with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Teams, required.

  • Experience and Proficiency with popular CRM’s (Salesforce) preferred.

  • “Professionally social” – enjoys speaking on the phone with customers demonstrating a natural approach to build rapport during conversation

Physical Requirements:

Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently.
