General Job Description: Instrument technician, with an emphasis on controls, which include a working knowledge and ability to install, troubleshot, and maintain electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, communication, and compressed gas systems up to 600V. Applies working knowledge troubleshooting Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems. Performs work on energized and de-energized equipment.Performs work alone or with other employees depending on the character and nature of the work assignments. Typical Dutiesinclude but are not limited to the following: 1. Performs all work in a safe manner. Complies with all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, their fellow employees and the public from injury. 2. Troubleshoot control systems through the use of interpreting schematics and computerized logic diagrams. 3. Install, troubleshoot, and configure PLC’s, Variable Frequency Drive’s (VFD), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), machine communications, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Turbine Control Systems (TCS), and Bulk Material Handling Systems. Maintains and modifies circuit wiring diagrams. May assist control engineers with control/analog loops, ladder logic, text algorithms, and workstation graphic modification and maintenance. 4. Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs plant controls and process instrumentation. Types of equipment include: laptop/software, transmitters, analyzers, valve controllers, level indicators, level positioners, solenoid valves, air quality, vibration, performance monitoring systems, thermocouples, pressure switches, temperature switches, gauge’s. 5. Installs, repairs, and troubleshoots motors, motor controllers, and motor control circuitry up to 600V. 6. Installs, repairs, and maintains sensing equipment piping/tubing where welding is not required. 7. Inspects and maintains control systems such as: feed-water and combustion controls, turbine system controls, soot-blowing controls, ash/dust/pyrites removal control systems, combustible gas control systems, emission’s monitoring control, and other electrical/process control devices and systems. 8. Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and maintains plant continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS). 9. Uses hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, calibration equipment, and rigging apparatus as necessary to perform tasks. * Job tasks will involve both inside and outside work, temperature extremes, dusty environments, and moderate heights. Must be able to work overtime when required which may include afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays. All tools and PPE will be company provided, which includes a limited stipend for Arc Flash clothing and work boots. Craft specific controls training/continuing education, safety, and mobile equipment (i.e. aerial lifts, forklifts, etc.) training will be company provided. Process Industry experience (i.e. Powerplant, Chemical, Refinery, Water Treatment) is preferred Controls technical maintenance is preferred Factory maintenance technician involved in both mechanical and electrical duties is preferred Human machine interface and controls communication maintenance is preferred 2 year degree in Electro-Mechanical Sciences is a plus 5 years’ experience in factory maintenance technician craft is required Related military experience is a plus Job: Craft/Skilled Trades/Laborers *Organization: Generation *Title: *Instrument Technician - May accept step 3 or higher Location: IA-Council Bluffs Requisition ID: 2300440
