Palmer College of Chiropractic Accountant in Davenport, Iowa

The Accountant will be responsible for recording accounting activity, reconciling general ledger accounts, managing payment processing services, maintaining fixed asset records, and preparing financial and budget reports. Responsibilities also include assisting with special projects and various other accounting activities as assigned.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepares journal entries for the general ledger by compiling, researching, and analyzing data.

  • Performs monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, credit card and other general ledger accounts as well as research discrepancies.

  • Responsible for the recording and tagging of newly acquired fixed assets, recording depreciation, accounting for the disposition of fixed assets, and the reconciliation of and reporting of capital work in progress.

  • Manage third party payment processing services, reconciling daily activity and researching discrepancies.

  • Perform month end activities ensuring timely completion in accordance with the month end close cycle.

  • Prepares audit workpapers for the fiscal year audit by researching and analyzing the fiscal year accounting information.

  • Prepares financial and budget information using statistical and dashboard reports and other ad hoc reporting for management and auditors.

  • Prepares various external reporting including sales tax returns, business property statements, unclaimed property and other State and Federal filings.

  • Use analytical skills to resolve questions and problems; contacts departments requesting additional information and answers inquiries from departments.

  • Prepares analysis on assigned accounts.

  • Assist in maintaining and organizing college financial records.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Relevant experience preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, with emphasis on Excel skills.

  • Ability to perform assigned duties with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to maintain concentration for significant periods of time.

  • Ability to utilize necessary equipment and general office equipment.

  • Ability to utilize personal computer and various software programs.

  • Ability to calculate complex numerical data.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to work various hours as job requires.

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), audit techniques, and financial report preparation.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to calculate complex numerical data.

  • Experience working with databases and/or accounting software is a plus.

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Perform sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted and temperature- controlled office setting.

  • Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.

  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
