Follow American Water on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. / PLEASE NOTE: In order for American Water to evaluate decisions about new regulations, reintegration, and safe operating practices, all employees are required to report their vaccination status./ Primary Role Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for managing the overall performance and efficiency of the Automation & Control Systems along with all Policies and Practices to ensure their secure and reliable operation and all activities concerned with the delivery of multiple medium to small Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and water treatment plant projects from inception to completion, the size and importance of which have a significant impact to Company objectives related to Production, Networks, and/or other water resource or operations systems. Key Accountabilities * Monitoring, maintaining, and repairing Automation & Control Systems. * Monitoring and managing budgets and schedules for multiple medium to small SCADA and production-related Projects and programs of moderate scope and complexity. ( 10%) * Interacts with engineering consultants, contractors, and Operations personnel to manage design, installation, and maintenance of SCADA systems. (50%) * Driving efficiency into project delivery through the monitoring of delivery metrics (unit costs, target costs vs. actual, etc.) and pursuit of more effective delivery and procurement approaches. (5%) * Delivery of assigned Capital Projects in accordance with policies and procedures set for in the Capital Investment Management (CIM) system to meet asset needs. ( 5%) * Asset Owner satisfaction in accordance with the scope of work agreed upon for each project. Interacts with Engineering and Operations personnel to ensure project delivery program meets operations needs and is coordinated with operations personnel on operational impacts related to project delivery program. (20%) * Interaction with Technical Services function regarding standards and requirements. * Ensures compliance with established regulatory criteria, specifications and standards. ( 10%) Knowledge/Skills * General knowledge of Engineering, Project Management and construction management practices related to planning, design, construction and operations for water resource management facilities, engineering, contract administration, and construction technology. * Working knowledge of new technology and current trends in automation and SCADA systems * Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation in automation & process control equipment and systems * Working knowledge of industrial automation & control system platforms including PLC / DCS / HMI programming / design / configuration. * Strong knowledge of P&IDs, control elementary drawings, ISA instrument specifications, and loop diagrams. * Knowledge of process computers and data collection methods. Understanding of PC Networking technology, telemetry methods and historical archiving databases. Knowledge of OPC, * Visual Basic, and SQL applications * Knowledge of data communications systems, protocols, wired and wireless network systems, and radio telemetry. * Demonstrated understanding of programmable process controller configuration, (PLCs / RTUs: Allen – Bradley, Modicon, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Emerson) * Demonstrated understanding of HMI configuration with Iconics, Intellution, or Wonderware. Experience/Education * Minimum 7 years experience in project delivery of major water resources projects * Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred. * Certifications & Licenses: * Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred Travel Requirements * 20% Local travel to support business requirements as necessary. Work Environment * 80% Office with occasional work in the field.
