Humana Senior Procurement/Category Professional in Davenport, Iowa



The Senior Procurement/Category Professional leads the development of category strategies, designs sourcing plans, oversee negotiations, implement contracts, and drive successful supplier relationships. Additionally, this role is also responsible for ensuring strong alignment with, and becoming a trusted advisor to, key functional leaders. The Senior Procurement/Category Professional will also partner with business and sourcing leadership in Humana's business segments to drive enterprise-wide value.


  • Lead the development of category strategies based on sourcing profession best practices, including supply market analyses, Porter's Five Forces, should-cost models, process and domain expertise

  • Develop risk- and probability-adjusted multi-year savings forecasts and annual savings goals

  • Oversee analysis of qualitative and quantitative supplier characteristics, including supplier capabilities, supplier goals and objectives, risk profile, and supplier's financial position for requisite categories

  • Develop multi-year sourcing pipelines that drive total value, including cost savings and supplier innovation for Humana

  • Drive corporate compliance to the preferred-supplier program via end-user change management and communications programs

  • Work closely with Procurement Operations and Corporate Payables to ensure a seamless end-to-end experience for associates

  • Develop and implement leading sourcing practices for environmental sustainability and supplier code of conduct

  • Mitigate legal and commercial risk for Humana

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a business or technical discipline

  • Corporate level experience with procurement/category management (sourcing, contracts, etc)

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior leaders in order to help align strategies to best support them.

  • Demonstrated Project Management

  • Strong financial, relationship, and business analysis/acumen skills to drive and implement sourcing programs and services aligned with business partners strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, both as a lead and as a part of a team

  • Ability to work in a team environment to collate and act upon feedback from all levels within the business and sourcing environments

  • Must be able to travel to Louisville for meetings as business needs dictate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Contractual experience with a background in technology contracts (licensing, SLA, IT services, SaaS, Cloud)

  • Experience in the IT industry, procuring IT systems and/or IT Consulting

  • Sourcing/supply chain and or contracting experience

Additional information:

This role will ideally be located in Louisville, Ky, Humana Tower, but WAH Nationwide is also available.
