Principal Accountant - Investment Accounting Policy & Research in Des Moines, Iowa
Principal is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our Principal Global Investors (PGI) business area as an Accountant on the Accounting Policy, Research, and SOX Team. This team gives you the opportunity to partner with colleagues across the organization to implement new GAAP and Statutory guidance to ensure compliance with reporting requirements, assist with SOX compliance initiatives, and collaborating with the Reporting Team during the quarterly close process.
This team partners with key internal and external stakeholders in order to advocate for the business while protecting the integrity of the financial statements. Successful candidates will have a strong aptitude for technical accounting, a natural curiosity to want to dig in and understand, and attention to details. Candidates will also have a strategic approach and strong communication skills in order to explain complex technical matters in an understandable manner to people of varying backgrounds across teams. Specific responsibilities will include coordinating GAAP and Statutory accounting policy activities, distributing periodic updates on new and emerging accounting pronouncements, serving as a strategic advocate for new accounting policies and procedures, partnering with peers from across the organization to review the purchases of unique investment structures, assisting with SOX reporting, and assisting the Reporting Team during the quarterly close process.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
CPA strongly preferred
5+ years experience in accounting
Proficiency in researching, resolving, and communicating technical accounting matters strongly preferred
Knowledge of investments preferred
Extensive experience in GAAP accounting; Statutory accounting preferred
Experience developing solutions within the boundaries of regulatory agencies and corporate infrastructure standards
