Principal Financial Group Assistant Director - Business Development in Des Moines, Iowa
What You'll Do
We’re looking for an Assistant Director of Business Development to join our team. In this role, you’ll lead a team of sales strategists, analysts and internal wholesalers to create go to markets strategies for our Income Solutions! This includes our Principal Custody Solutions (PCS), Defined Benefit (DB), and Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) strategies.
Build positive relationships with sales leaders across multiple segments (Institutional Income Solutions, Worksite Retirement Solutions). This will aid in building the future state of your team.
Lead and coach the team to achieve revenue and growth goals.
Optimize team functionality to enhance distribution effectiveness and sales opportunities.

Who You Are
8 years of experience or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education. Preferably in financial analysis, plan design, actuarial work, sales, or client facing financial services roles.
Proven leader experience including analytical thinking, and presentation capabilities are essential
Proficiency in negotiation, relationship building, and time management is critical.
Strong understanding of retirement plan design, industry regulations (e.g., ERISA), market trends, portfolio construction, capital markets, financial services products, and related regulations
Familiarity with business development tools and platforms, such as CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and analytics tools.
Strong project management abilities, problem-solving expertise, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Overnight travel may be required – up to 10%.
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$123000 - $167000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
