MercyOne Central Iowa operates four not-for-profit Catholic medical centers in Des Moines West Des Moines Newton and Centerville and two specialty hospitals – MercyOne Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and MercyOne Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive (965 beds total) – along with more than 20 additional facilities that house more than 50 primary care pediatric internal medicine and specialty clinics. Responsibilities
Job Summary / Purpose
Responsible for working with all end users on the purchasing of products to place orders and ensure contractual and standardization goals are met. Researches any discrepancies due to receipts and/or pricing. Verifies and tries to find alternative products if the vendor or manufacturers have a back order.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Processes special requisitions
Ensures all orders placed are compliant with appropriate local or national contracts and are consistent with product standardization and value analysis decisions
Researches problems with back orders and substitute items when manufacturers and/or distributors are out of product
Coordinates returns to vendors
Handles hospital procedures for recalled products
Clears on-hold invoices and returns to Finance
Distributes product information to department heads and maintains updated reference and quote files, catalogs, etc
Non-essential Job Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field. May substitute 4 years of relevant experience for education.
A minimum of 2 years of progressive experience and responsibilities in purchasing
Good communications skills
Strong analytical skills
Ability to manipulate large files in Excel and use functionality such as sorting, pivot tables
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Project, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Knowledge of automated ERP systems and processes
Ability to research data for pricing, order dates, receiving inquiries spend in relevant supply chain applications (e.g., Lawson)
Good knowledge of hospital products
Must also be able to do creative problem solving and have the ability to work both independently and in a team situation
Three years of health care experience preferred. Incumbents in his job will be grandfathered into educational requirements
