Responsibilities

GENERAL SUMMARY :

Performs clerical duties at the control desk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Answers multiple phone lines, transfers call and takes accurate messages.

  • Follows up with appropriate personnel to ensure records are completed.

  • Communicates appropriately with staff, physicians, and other health care team members with ability to prioritize in an environment that is often hectic and subject to frequent interruptions.

  • In Main only:

  • Write up schedule for next day

  • Compile and print weekend call schedule

  • Utilize Bed Tracking system to order critical care beds.

  • Assist charge nurse in contacting appropriate units for add-on cases, cancellations, etc.

  • Updates hour sheet (sick calls, approved PTO, etc.) and files appropriate documentation.

  • Updates PSE communication board.

  • Sorts and distributes mail.

  • Updates phone lists.

  • Maintains inventory of forms, office supplies.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Files, types, etc. as requested.

  • Updates staff mailboxes

  • Organizes staff bulletin board.

  • Update new employee information.

  • Participates in orientation of new employees.

  • Participates in departmental Performance Improvement projects as appropriate.

  • Attends departmental meetings.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Previous similar experience desired.

  • Medical terminology desired.

  • Typing ability and basic computer skills.

  • Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.

  • Ability to read, write and speak English language.
