The Opportunity

The Senior Business Development Manager will have the opportunity to:

  • Be accountable for the success of business development and sales efforts within the Black & Veatch’s Energy and Process Sector with a focus on Ammonia and Fertilizers sub segment.

  • Work with the Managing Director, Ammonia & Fertilizers, and will work in an organization that aligns the goals of the business unit.

  • In addition to the general market, Will be focused on a select number of targets and potentially strategic clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and then implements an agreed marketing plan, for targeted business lines, that result in sufficient generation of leads and sales funnel growth that meets future new business targets; specific targets to be agreed with supervisor annually.

  • Performs prospecting and conducts opportunity screening through approved methods to pursue new business opportunities.

  • Works with the Profit & Loss (P&L) center leaders and proposal managers to develop commercial winning strategies and value propositions that result in the targeted new business volume as measured in Profit Gross Margin (PGM); specific new business PGM to be agreed with supervisor annually.

  • Position continuously interfaces with current clients and targeted new clients to ensure Black & Veatch (BV) has continuous insight into the Ammonia and/or Fertilizer clients and targeted business lines.

  • Gains specific client feedback regarding proposals and ongoing work.

  • Acts as the internal knowledge source for the client interests in new business opportunities; ensures the client is informed about BV capabilities that might apply to the client's business.

  • Follows BV's strategic selling procedures.

  • Actively uses and keeps updated BV's Electronic Client Management (eCRM) system to ensure necessary information is available on prospect reporting, forecasts, etc. to support business unit and company business planning.

  • Coordinates with other business units in the pursuit of business for the benefit of the entire company.

  • Conducts all dealings with clients, external and internal, with professionalism, integrity and high ethical standards.

  • Acts as principal client advocate for assigned clients and represents the voice of the client within internal BV meetings.

Management Responsibilities

Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree preferred.

  • Strong technical and commercial understanding of Ammonia and Fertilizers markets in particular and Process Industry in general, including drivers and general trends; Global contacts in the Ammonia and Fertilizers industry.

  • 15+ years’ experience in process plant projects or Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracting industry, with 10+ years in EPC capital projects sales and marketing in North America. Recent experience in Ammonia and Fertilizers EPC sector sales and marketing is strongly desired.

  • Training: Completion of or ability to complete formal sales training in understanding client needs; effective strategic account management; and making effective presentations.

  • Preferred Skills: Strong sales traits, including tenacity, competitiveness, persuasiveness and overall people skills.

  • Experience in an Engineering Manager and/or Project Manager capacity would be advantageous.

  • Highly task oriented to focus on winning new business and achieving sales targets.

  • Knowledge and overall understanding of Ammonia and Fertilizers industry; knowledge of industry business drivers and motivators.

  • Exhibits high ethical standards in business and in work; maintains a reputation of integrity among clients.

  • Understanding of financial metrics including PGM and funnel growth.

  • Overall people skills; excellent communications/human relations skills (written, verbal, client service); ability to maintain key relationships and interface with diverse personalities.

  • Both self-motivated and a team player.

  • Ability to think quickly and anticipate questions when interfacing with clients.

  • Ability to sell; strong negotiating and persuasive skills.

  • Ability to interface with diverse personalities.

  • Ability to think strategically.

  • Ability to forecast.

  • Strong leadership skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • 15+ years experience in direct selling, marketing, and/or proposal management.
