About the Opening: Our client within the food/beverage space is looking to hire a Director of Procurement to oversee their team of seven buyers.
Job Description: Director of Procurement
Duties to include:
This person will manage 7 Buyers.
Oversee holistic procurement strategy and vision
Provide mentorship, coaching, development opportunities and overall leadership to the procurement team
Establish, track, and hold team members accountable for departmental KPI’s.
Increase total gross profit among all categories
Direct inventory management and fulfillment at six successful business units around the Midwest
Reduce inventory shrink through process change and training
Improve and maintain optimal inventory levels with your team to support on time deliveries
Grow partnerships with existing produce suppliers, and continually evaluate new and qualified produce suppliers
Grow specialty categories with marketing, sales support and develop vendor relationships with specialty suppliers to support growth needs
Support in negotiating vendor contracts and critical business needs
Maintain and improve the overall company supply chain including our carrier network for inbound loads and inter-company shuttle needs
Support the quality assurance team and help to improve QA processes and procedures.
Excellent work ethic; reliable/work flexible schedule as necessary
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with fresh/perishable products highly desired
Management experience - They will be responsible for developing buyers, and elevating and mentoring the team.
BS/BA degree in Supply Chain Management or related field or experience in lieu of
5+ years of prior procurement experience
2-3 years in a management role with a sound track record of developing employees
Produce and wholesale foods purchasing/procurement background preferred
Experience in executing on a purchasing strategy that has meaningfully improved gross margin
Ability to work well with both internal associates and external partners
Strong desire to learn new things and the ability to put new skills to use
Excellent negotiation skills
