Reporting to the Sr. Director, Search and Catalog, the Director, Unified Search Platform will serve as the Product Owner (PO) for Marriott’s next generation enterprise commerce search platform. This role will own the roadmap and accompanying activities to develop and launch a modern set of search capabilities. Marriott’s Unified Search Platform will drive growth in digital commerce by delivering guests a holistic and integrated shopping experience across property, room and non-rooms products. This role will partner with engineering, digital channel leads and stakeholders to deliver against digital commerce goals.

The Director, Unified Search Platform collaborates across the organization to drive the launch, continuous iterations/innovation and ongoing development of Marriott’s search capabilities. This role will lead the planning and delivery of capabilities that yield Marriott International a modern, next generation search and shopping experience. The Unified Search Platform will provide Marriott’s Web, App & Associate search channels with world-class data and capabilities.

This position will be highly matrixed, with great collaboration and shared roadmap development with numerous business stakeholders. Alongside stakeholder alignment, our immediate teams are organized cross-functionally by squads that build remarkable products for Marriott International. The Director, Unified Search Platform will drive a strong business vision, collaborate across squads, and focus on modernizing tools and platforms.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, IT, Engineering or related major, or equivalent experience

  • 8-10 years or more experience in digital product development, ownership/management, services, etc.

  • Experience with enterprise search applications such as LucidWorks Fusion, Solr, Elastic, Endeca, etc.

  • Proven ability to lead and work with cross-functional teams in support of specific business priorities.

  • Ability to solve problems quickly, think strategically, and drive data-driven decision making.

  • Demonstrated comfort with generating and communicating strategic analysis and business insights to drive prioritization and build consensus.

  • Ability to build high-performing teams of leaders and drive a results-oriented culture.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results under difficult conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity.

  • Dynamic interpersonal skills including being a team player and influencer that works well with counterparts from various functions/departments. and has the ability to influence without direct accountability. Thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills, sensitive to global communication needs.

  • Proficient in software products and tools that support current business practices and global teams (e.g., Office, Teams, Jira, Confluence, etc.).

  • Experience managing and defining transformational strategies for business units.


Cross-Channel Digital Commerce Platforms

  • Work with engineering partners, service providers and cross-discipline stakeholders to implement new enterprise commerce search platform.

  • Drive strategy, develop roadmap, and lead continuous improvement activities to better enable digital products and customer experiences.

  • Capture business requirements and works with teams to create and prioritize a roadmap + backlog of capabilities and enhancements.

  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders across Digital, Commerce, Reservations, Revenue Management, Loyalty, Brand, etc.

  • Within context of property and product search, continually update, refine and enhance attributes, definitions, taxonomies and data models.

  • Develop a multi-year roadmap to deliver on long term goals for digital commerce.

  • Prioritize features and capabilities and create epics and stories in partnership with engineering and service provider partners.

  • Manage teams made up of associates, service providers and consultants; both onshore and offshore.

  • Manage budgets and forecasts to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.

  • Collaborate across teams, and creatively solve problems to constructively balance priorities and overcome or remove blockers required to successfully deliver a new product or feature.

Enterprise Search Capabilities

  • Serve as the SME for Unified Search capabilities and business knowledge center.

  • Translate high-level business planning information into technology needs/solutions.

  • Lead development and launch of modern search features and capabilities: natural language processing (NLP), conversational/artificial intelligence (AI) search, personalized/persona search, multilingual search, typeahead/auto suggest, advanced mapping, etc.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and prioritization to sequence the activation of new features and capabilities to meet business goals.

  • Develop new search-driven data models, business rules and processes that drive scale, automation and frictionless guest experiences.

  • Partners with digital channel leads and stakeholders to deliver platform capabilities for experience design and activation.

  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends; serve as a catalyst for the adoption of new capabilities and ways of working/thinking.

  • Deliver capabilities to modernize search technology for property, rooms, non-rooms products.

Colorado Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $104,700 to $211,145 annually.

New York City & Westchester County, NY Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $126,686 to $232,258 annually.
