HNTB Engineer III - Highway Design in Des Moines, Iowa

What We're Looking For

Are you looking for a new, exciting opportunity? Join our Des Moines, IA office and be an integral part of growing our transportation practice in Iowa and across the Midwest. We are looking for a highly creative and motivated engineer who is knowledgeable in Microstation and Geopak design software and will complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. The candidate will be responsible for the preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs, including the preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas. The primary focus will be highway transportation projects with Iowa DOT, however the candidate will have the opportunity to support other disciplines and highway, toll, and municipal clients as part of our local Iowa and Midwest transportation practice.

In addition to Essential Responsibilities, Primary Focus will include:

  • Perform design calculations, geometric design, modeling and plan production of roadway, staging and permanent traffic control plans, quantities, cost estimates and final specifications.

  • Utilize Microstation and Geopak to complete engineering design and 3D models.

  • Provide complete design efforts with direction from and in coordination with an experienced engineering design team.

  • Review and check engineering work completed by others.

  • Follow and achieve project scope, schedule and budget in accordance with quality procedures.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • PE

  • 5 years of related experience – Iowa DOT experience preferred

  • Experience in traditional and alternative project delivery

  • Microstation and Geopak experience – Bentley OpenRoads and/or Concept Station a plus

  • Bluebeam Revu experience a plus

  • Active engagement in local professional and civic organizations

  • Master's Degree in Engineering


What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5 years relevant experience
