Principal Financial Group Financial Director / Actuary in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

Are you ready to take your finance career to new heights? Principal Financial Group is seeking a professional and motivated individual to join our world-class team as a Finance Director or Actuary. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating management reporting for our Benefits and Protection businesses. You will focus on building out efficiencies and tools that improve our financial reporting capabilities across both the Workplace Benefits and Business Owner verticals. The ideal candidate will possess financial acumen, strong interpersonal proficiencies, and an aspiration for impactful leadership.

The core scope and responsibilities of this role are:

  • Lead the enhancement and development of B&P reporting capabilities to drive comprehensive and cohesive reporting for senior management and other internal stakeholders

  • Drive implementation of industry leading financial reporting tools across B&P finance

  • Support monthly and quarter-end reporting activities to business leaders and departments

  • Coordinate responses to finance-related industry surveys and ad-hoc questions

  • Provide insights and automation associated with customer-level financial reporting capabilities

  • Further B&P competitive intelligence by contributing to B&P financial competitor analysis

  • Support the development of financial reporting for the SMB Horizontal

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis and provide strategic insights to senior management for decision-making

  • Establish and cultivate strong connections with internal teams and partners that foster trust and collaboration

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree, in Finance or Actuarial Science preferred, or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of relevant actuarial or financial analyst experience resulting in strong financial acumen

  • Excellent leadership and people management abilities

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills required

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Ability to influence and gain consensus during periods of uncertainty or change.

  • Strong change management capabilities including effectively guides others through change

  • Strong technical proficiencies in Excel VBA, PowerBI, SAS, Snowflake, Essbase, as well as an aptitude in programming languages (R, SQL, etc) preferred

Hiring Level: We are open to considering candidates at both the Financial Director or Actuary level as well as the Senior Financial Director or Senior Actuary I level with additional qualifications and experience.

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$137000 - $185000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
