Principal Financial Group High Yield Analyst in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a High Yield Analyst to join Principal Global Fixed Income. In this role, you'll conduct high yield and leveraged loan research and analysis on assigned companies/industries, develop financial models, and provide research insights and detail buy, sell and hold recommendations to support portfolio managers in making informed investment decisions!

  • Independently conduct fundamental research. Analyze and explain economic, competitive, sector and political drivers that impact a borrower's ability to repay it's debt. Maintain credit rating, develop well-researched short and long-term outlook and relative value assessments of all current holdings. Ensure information is current and portfolio managers are proactively informed of significant developments

  • Provide responses to inquires from marketing, RFP, product management, distribution and clients

  • Maintain broad knowledge of financial markets, current events, and global/U.S. economies and analyze their impact on portfolios. Monitor industry and competitive environment through research of market intelligence and insights to proactively identify new opportunities, trends, emerging issues or threats. Proactively develop and foster relationships with industry contacts (e.g. Wall Street analysts) to ensure constant flow of information

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (ie finance, accounting, economics, statistics, engineering, data science, business analytics), and a minimum two years' work experience with fixed income strategies (high yield and leveraged loan preferred) in a trading, research, portfolio management or strategy capacity

  • Solid understanding of financial accounting and economic theory, global financial markets and fixed income products

  • Proficiency with Excel and Bloomberg

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • MBA degree, CFA designation, or progress towards MBA and CFA

  • Familiarity with database structures, big data techniques, and programming languages (ie Python, MATLAB, R, B Quant, Power BI, VBA)

  • Requires the ability to efficiently and effectively research, compile and analyze information, apply reasoning and exhibit sound decision making related to credit, risk and valuation

  • Excellent abilities in time management, analytics, and financial modeling

  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with internal and external contacts and make decisions quickly and effectively in a highly competitive environment with incomplete information is critical

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$123000 - $167000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role will be based out of our World Headquarters located in Des Moines, IA.

Work Environments

This role offers the ability for in-office or four days in-office and one day remote. You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
