Kemin Industries Human Resources Generalist in Des Moines, Iowa

This role is a visible presence with employees which allows for employees to ask questions and be available for Human Resource needs. The ideal candidate will have the compassion and professionalism to deal with some situations that will require dealing with highly emotional issues and conflict resolution. Responsible for providing services to a rapidly growing work force, they must make timely and effective decisions, balancing analysis with decisiveness. They will be the reference source regarding compliance with employment, benefits laws and HR regulations and will be called upon to handle personnel issues and complaints.

  • Provide employee relations services to the business including identifying, mediating and resolving issues; works with managers and employees to bring about improved performance and/or behavior changes

  • Build relationships with operations department leaders and managers in support of their people needs.

  • Prepare unemployment claim documents and send to necessary parties.

  • Administer employee surveys and create reports from the data to share with stakeholders.

  • Timely processing of paperwork related to employee offboarding.

  • Support HR communication efforts within the region, including managing the general HR inbox, intranet content and other means of communication.

  • Enter employee data into the HRIS system, and update as needed.

  • Administer Company programs including processing of paperwork associated with various HR policies (flexible work, tuition reimbursement, longevity program, birthday program).

  • Participate in HR audits, including maintaining and pulling required documentation.

  • Complete other general HR department generalist duties on a regular and as needed basis.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or other business related with 3+ years of experience.

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing organization is preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Superior interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain an extreme level of confidentiality is a must.

  • Ability to actively cooperate and interact with all entities of Kemin are essential.

  • Highly effective written communications and high attention-to-detail is a must.

  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel is preferred.

  • Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize competing demands.

  • A high degree of personal motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution, and possession of a distinct sense of urgency.

  • Demonstrated integrity and honesty in all aspects .
