Job Responsibilities

  • Manage new hire process (Interview, Paperwork, Pre-Employment Testing, Background Check, E-Verify)

  • Develop, implement, and manage Elder Corporation’s processes and procedures while ensuring they are compliant with state and federal current laws and regulations

  • Handle all employee relations issues that arise

  • Provide guidance and coaching to employees in leadership positions to improve performance and build morale throughout their team

  • Assist the Safety Department in safety related tasks, writing policies and incident investigations.

  • Direct and provide feedback for annual performance appraisals

  • Work with legal counsel when needed for issues that arise

  • Complete monthly newsletter

  • Co-Manage Drug and Alcohol Program

  • Create and post job openings for all positions

  • Co-Manage workers’ compensation claims, injuries, and return to work program

  • Continue relationships with various vendors and customers

  • Attend career fairs and different classes to recruit new employees

  • Assist in planning of Annual Fall and Spring Meeting

  • Participate in the benefit renewal process, activate new hire benefits, and assist in questions regarding Elder Corporation benefits

  • Interact with employees on different job sites when necessary

  • Designated EEO/ AA representative for the company

  • Conduct unemployment reports, fact finding interviews, and/or hearings

  • As required involvement with HR related duties with site specific requirements

  • Manage a small staff

  • Other various duties

    Required Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in employment law practices (i.e. FMLA, OSHA, ADA, EEO, etc.)

  • Written and verbal communication skills

  • Organization and time management skills

  • Ability to handle confidential information

  • Interact comfortably with employees at all levels

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint

    Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources related field, or two years’ experience with employee relations experience

  • Experience with HeavyJob or Sage Accounting Software

  • Knowledge of / with Publication 15

  • Familiarity with Iowa’s Unemployment Insurance process and handbook
