YRC Freight Industrial Engineer in Des Moines, Iowa

JOB SUMMARY

Provide accurate, timely and reliable research and analysis of operations and recommendations for productivity improvements and cost reductions. Implement approved operation changes and conduct periodic reviews and audits for ensuring ongoing success. Develop and analyze process improvements to maximize the efficiency of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate with managers on objectives and determination of issues.

  2. Conduct research and analysis of operations for improved productivity and cost reductions.

  3. Use appropriate analysis tools and methods to analyze work methods and establish labor standards for activities within a selected area.

  4. Develop new processes and formulate recommendations to management.

  5. Implement approved operation changes and provide follow up reviews and audits to ensure continued success.

  6. Coordinate with team member on group projects. Develop project management skills.

  7. Develop and facilitate training for field and corporate personnel to maximize the impact of process changes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and zero (0) to two (2) years industrial engineering or operations management experience or no degree and four (4) years industrial engineering or operations management experience.

  2. Demonstrated organizational and analytical analysis abilities.

  3. Experience using MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  4. Experience in project management or the transportation industry.

  5. Experience with SQL.

  6. Demonstrated statistical and analytical problem-solving skills.

  7. Ability to travel a minimum of 50%.

  8. Willingness to work nights and weekends, including working in extreme cold and hot temperatures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Operations experience in the transportation industry or experience in industrial engineering.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental working conditions vary and employee may encounter vibration, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and wind as well as exposure to varied weather, varied surfaces, sharp edges, varied lighting and confined and congested areas and occasionally exposure to petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, and grease.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
