Kemin Industries Inside Technical Sales Representative in Des Moines, Iowa

Overview

Kemin is seeking a dedicated Inside Technical Sales Representative responsible for inside sales efforts with customers that require minimal in-person sales team support. The primary responsibility is to be customer focused; which specifically includes contacting current customers, cold-calling and prospecting newer accounts, and providing basic technical guidance. The incumbent also enters relevant information in Kemin’s internal CRM database and works closely with the Commercial Team to develop account tactics and action plans.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing a portfolio of accounts to achieve long-term success using Kemin’s ingredients and services.

  • Act as the point of contact, develop positive relationships and handle customers’ individual needs.

  • Generate new business using existing and potential customer networks.

  • Resolve conflicts and provide solutions to customers in a timely manner.

  • Schedule and organize meetings at industry or Kemin sponsored events for select customers individually or small groups.

  • Report on the status of accounts and transactions.

  • Suggest actions to improve sales performance and identify opportunities for growth.

  • Write and publish technical customer literature.

Qualifications

What we require of you:

  • Bachelors degree, including some science or technology component, or equivalent with 2-5 years of post-degree experience

  • S. or M.S. Science or Technology degree with 0-3 years of sales and/or technical service or equivalent experience preferred

  • Preferably a passion and background in Veterinary Sciences (Vet Tech, Animal Nutrition)

  • Work closely with Customer Service Manager to ensure customer needs are met, and cross-train as back-up for selected tasks

  • Cross-train as back-up for administration of Kemin’s CRM database

  • Back-up to field Technical Service Managers

  • Develop technical service papers using internal data

  • Experience in communicating and/or teaching technical concepts.

  • Demonstrated ability at problem solving, leveraging available knowledge and people resources.

  • Develop an overall knowledge of customer’s operations and needs and use this knowledge to improve customer support and satisfaction.

  • Self-starter, gets involved quickly, takes on difficult tasks with enthusiasm.

  • Technical writing capability for a range of audience aptitude.

  • Maintains high activity/productivity level. Operates with sense of urgency, efficiency, effectiveness and determination over extended periods of time.

  • Strives to understand the details. Balances, analyzes and takes appropriate action. Solid planning, detail oriented and organization skills.

  • Presents ideas effectively, actively listens, and works across functional boundaries with the ability to effectively communicate.

  • Can work in group or independently; oriented towards the good of the whole. Ability to build rapport and good working relationship with multiple personnel.

  • Manage job professionally, especially the ability to communicate positively and professionally with customers, and with a high level of organization.

  • Ability to effectively deal with change and adversity in the work place, and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to respond to change with positive attitude, offer suggestions for improvements to increase effectiveness of change, support new initiatives, and maintain an open mind.

Your work week:

  • Selected travel up to 10%, primarily domestic but occasional international travel is possible.

  • While this position does not require a significant physical exertion, it does require the individual to be computer proficient and at times may require the individual to work multiple hours at a computer.
