Principal Financial Group Intern - Graduate Level - Summer Associate Equities in Des Moines, Iowa
Principal Global Investors (PGI) will host a small group of interns in our equity investment division during the Summer of 2023. These interns will join the research analyst team of Principal Global Equities (PGE) with over 100 billion USD in AUM.
As a member of the research team, the Summer Associates support our Analyst Research team to generate ideas and aid in construction of outperforming strategies. Consistent across all strategies, our approach is to evaluate and select stocks from a broad investment universe and construct portfolios in alignment with specific objectives and risk management parameters supported by our proprietary quantitative tools. We seek companies demonstrating positive fundamental change, with exploitable expectation gaps and pricing anomalies. Our conviction is built on fundamental bottom-up insights rather than making macro-based calls. Our Associates will rotate through various sectors within global equities and be primarily focused on individual stock analysis within the parameters of our investment process and philosophy.
Responsibilities will include:
Provide comprehensive overview of the equity investment process including deep fundamental analysis focused on drives of the investment process, stock selection models, quantitative ranks, portfolio construction, performance monitoring, trading and client reporting.
Participate in special projects for fundamental analysts to identify buy/sell candidates which will allow you to attend analysis meetings and product specific discussions with individual analysts as well as create our own investment thesis on stocks. For those Associates seeking a more quantitative focus, custom projects will also be assigned.
We are looking for somone with:
Candidates must be pursuing a Master's, MBA or PHD in finance, security analysis, math, statistics, economics, accounting or an equivalent emphasis. Undergraduate degrees in all disciplines are considered to contribute to the cognitive diversity we seek
Must have strong knowledge of investments combined with excellent mathematical skills
Advanced PC skills and proficiency with Excel
Additional preferred skills and experience
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or CFA candidate
Exceptional organizational skills
Investment related software knowledge
Exposure to Morningstar, FactSet, Bloomberg, or similar
Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
$49 - $66 / year
You will receive a lump sum stipend of $3,000. This amount is intended to support incidental expenses you may incur as part of your internship. The Company will provide a tax gross-up on this stipend as a financial benefit but is not intended to compensate for all tax liabilities.
Principal offers competitive pay based on cost of labor in your location and your experience, including whether in the past you’ve interned with Principal.
This role offers the ability for in-office or hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek). You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.
This role will be based out of our Corporate Headquarters located in Des Moines, IA. International locations in London or Hong Kong will also be considered, provided you have work authorization with no sponsorship needed in these two locations. If hired into a full time position, other PGI locations may be considered as an alternate work location, should this be of interest to you.
