Responsibilities

The Manager of Flight Services is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Mercy One flight program—including the environment, staffing, patient care, and facilitation of teamwork. Along with Mercy One AirMed and Medical Director(s), the Manager of Flight Services has responsibility, authority and accountability for practices within the hospital and pre-hospital environment, which include patient care and safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Supervises flight team, providing overall direction of daily activities, orientation, performance evaluation, education, and support.

  • Works in collaboration with the NICU transport coordinator and the pediatric transporter regarding transport issues.

  • Develops, implements, and periodically reviews all policies, procedures, and guidelines that support the emergency transport services. This includes, but is not limited to, Joint Commission requirements, state regulations, regulatory standards, etc.

  • Continuously assesses and improves the service’s performance based on, but not limited to, quality management plan (both overall program and individual performance), and customer/employee satisfaction data.

  • Collaborates with the Director of AirMed to develop annual operating and capital budget, monitors and analyzes performance and productivity and implements necessary corrective plans. Utilizes budget information in management decision making.

  • Responsible for daily operational duties of the transport teams—including the air transport company vendor, pilots, mechanics, and management personnel from the air transport companies.

  • Supervises transport team middle management, leadership, and committees from the transport systems.

  • Works collaboratively with Emergency Medical Services on issues related to both departments.

  • Interfaces with the multi-disciplinary care team, maintaining open and positive communication with staff, physicians, and other hospital departments while serving as a resource and consultant in emergency transport issues.

  • Works with all parties responsible for billing issues related to Mercy One AirMed to ensure completion and entry, validation of data and report distribution.

  • May or may not actively participate in patient care duties.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for marketing of additional Mercy partnerships involving emergency transport care.

  • Participates in local, state, and national professional and related organizations to ensure current knowledge of emergency transport operations.

  • Participates in community education, outreach and prevention activities.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a flight nurse or paramedic.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE) required within 12 months of hire and maintain current certification.

  • If actively participating in patient care duties, must also meetalljob requirements of the Mercy One Flight Nurse or Paramedic as outlined in that job description.
