UnityPoint Health Manager Human Resources - Greene County Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa

This position oversees the human resources functions of employee relations, retention, engagement, recruitment, onboarding, employment law, leadership training, benefits administration, compensation administration and local HR operations of Greene County Hospital in Jefferson, Iowa. Serves as a resource on trends in employment, workforce planning, current law/regulations, and recognizes implications to the organization and recommends course of action. Leads the talent acquisition process for assigned organization. Leads the development and implementation of employee relations to include leadership training and development, employment law, compliance and diversity. Participates in the process of strategic workforce planning, human resource department planning, and budgeting, and is responsible for achieving annual goals. Successful accomplishment of this position will positively impact the retention and recruitment of staff, thus influencing the care of patients. In addition, the Human Resource Manager will facilitate and develop close relationships through regular communication with rural hospital HR leadership to assist in assessment and improvement of HR operations, workforce planning, and leadership development at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines rural hospitals.

  • Works in partnership with department management to develop and implement high impact “people practices”.

  • Educates and counsels managers and staff on human resource related issues including trends, policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Responds or directs responses to complaints or inquiries regarding civil rights and unemployment; works with the law department and external legal counsel as applicable on potential and pending legal actions involving employees.

  • Responsible for benefits administration; including making proposals to remain competitive yet cost-effective.

  • Responsible for maintaining a competitive compensation structure to align with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting human resources and evaluates compliance on ongoing basis; remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends course of action to ensure compliance.

  • Leads talent acquisition/recruitment efforts for assigned organizations including talent acquisition, onboarding, and orientation.

  • Hires, trains, supervises, conducts annual performance review and disciplines direct reports; assists with education/training of human resource staff.

  • Assists management with human resource related functions that may include but is not limited to: recruitment of staff, compensation and pay practices, performance development, corrective discipline, and training.

Bachelor’s degree in related field or related professional human resource experience required. Master’s degree in human resource or business related field or professional designation (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CCP, CCB, CEEBS, etc.) required.

5 years’ experience in a professional human resource capacity required. Ability to demonstrate progressively more responsible experience in all areas of human resources and training. Demonstrated leadership abilities, effective communication skills for oral and written communications. Knowledge of Office Suite of products – Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook calendar and email required. Proven verbal and written communication. Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
