Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

The Marketn Director contributes to the MercyOne Central Iowa vision and mission by the creation, timely modification and maintenance of an effective system to maintain accounting records and internal controls on behalf of the market as a whole and in support of each of the separate operational units.Responsible for the preparation and reporting of market consolidated financial information including regulatory requirements; long-range financial plans, annual budgets, actual results and future forecasts. Directs the activities of the market finance department through a team of team leaders and associates. Manages the accounting, financial systems and analytics, forecasting, planning and analysis team functions directly and is responsible for ensuring they perform their respective duties. Collaborates with operations to support their teams in identifying measuring and improving financial operations.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for ensuring finance functions operate and adhere to CSH/MercyOne wide policies and practices.

  2. Liaison between market and division/system finance and communicates key information.

  3. Responsible for managing team who runs development and administration of market budget process, ensuring an acceptable annual budget is developed and approved.

  4. Responsible for team who performs the recording and controlling of market accounting transactions, including accounts payable, purchasing, and internal and external audit functions. Ensures accounting systems safeguard market assets, provide viable management information and comply with GAAP.

  5. Ensures proper recording and compiling of data and reporting cost to 3 rd party payors for correct reimbursement of provided patient care, and producing feasibility studies.

  6. Directs establishment and operation of a cost accounting system including directing subordinate personnel on key matters relative to the ongoing operating of the cost accounting system.

  7. Assures entity compliance with activities relative to tax issues including completion of required reports and payments. Remains informed of changes in laws and regulations and the effective tax issues for market on a federal, state and local level.

  8. Responsible for ensuring financial practices comply with applicable government and regulatory requirements.

  9. Supports the market CFO to report financial condition of market to senior management, local board and board committees, prepares or directs preparation of various reports which summarize market's financial position and condition for government agencies, board of directors, and division/system.

  10. Recommends for hire, orients, trains, directs, evaluates the performance of and, when necessary, recommends discipline or discharge of subordinate personnel.

  11. Serves as a resource/consultant to senior management personnel on finance-related issues.

  12. Participates as a member of management on a variety of committees engaging in activities such as achieving market/division wide goals.

  13. Develops and provides for in-service education and update programs for department subordinates as well as personnel in other departments as appropriate.

  14. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education (for CHI Leadership Job Levels from Supervisor through President)

Sys/Div/Mkt/Local Director – Required Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline; Master’s Degree strongly preferred

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years in hospital accounting or a CPA firm with related background in Healthcare accounting, with at least three (3) years of progressive management experience in general accounting in a Healthcare environment or CPA firm. Master's degree with FHFMA or CPA designation strongly preferred. Previous experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller preferred.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Advanced interpersonal skills to deal in sensitive and/or complex situations with a wide variety of influential internal and external personnel

· Strong communication skills, to be able to make presentations before groups, including regulatory agencies

· Advanced analytical skills necessary to develop and implement new financial systems, techniques and/or procedures
