The Opportunity
Black & Veatch’s Global Advisory organization provides strategic and digital transformation consulting services to the power, energy, gas, and water sectors. We have an immediate need for a professional with functional / technical industry expertise and experience in Gas and Electric Utility Asset Investment Planning and Asset Performance Management solutions (ALRM). As the Principal Consultant, ALRM you will lead the completion of multiple engagement phases, function in a lead role, provide subject matter expertise and manage the client engagement while developing and improving Asset Investment Plans and documenting and improving business processes focused on Asset Risk, Performance and Health. #LI-NK1 #LI-Hybrid
The Team
The successful candidate will lead multiple types of Asset Performance Management and Asset Investment Planning projects; initially serving as a subject matter expert and gradually growing into developing and leading the delivery. This is a key role on a team of engineers, consultants, and analysts, with the expectation to provide industry expertise, and be the trusted advisor for our customers. Consultants in this practice generally work on multiple concurrent projects at a given time. This position will report to the Asset Lifecycle Risk Management solution lead within Black & Veatch Global Advisory.
Key Responsibilities
Execution
Lead simple and support complex projects for Electric Utilities with scope to grow into Gas Utilities
Electric Utility Asset Risk and Performance transformation projects
Electric Utilities Business Case Analysis related to Asset Investment, Risk or Performance
Serve as the Asset Performance Management (APM) and Asset Investment Planning (AIP) Subject Matter Expert on assessments, selections, designs and implementations
Develop, present, and defend conclusions, recommendations, and implementation plan
Identify technical issues impacting an engagement and propose solution.
Analyze and apply best practices from industry experience and research
Manage client expectations within defined scope of engagement
Recommend appropriate resources based on the phases of an engagement.
Manage engagement issues in moderate to more complex projects
Contribute to quality review on own engagement
Team Development
Delegate and manage work to assigned team members
Transfer capabilities, and skills to improve others’ knowledge and skill levels
Enhance established working relationships with team members and management from within the client’s organization
Outline specific performance measures, targets, and goals to articulate the business case for realized efficiencies or added value
Business Development
Assist or lead the business development activities such as RFPs, writing Statements of Work and scoping of change orders
Develop understanding of wider Black & Veatch Solutions
Proactively work with client to identify additional scope and areas where Black & Veatch can add value
Seek attendance and speaking roles at industry conferences
Actively participate in the sales process work with other client facing team members.
Gain access and develop relationship with senior leaders within client organization
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in business/consulting environment or APM Vendor or direct utility experience including full lifecycle of Asset Investment, Risk and Performance projects with one or more of the following:
Experience performing asset risk analysis
Knowledge of industry leading technology solutions for AssetPerformance Management and Investment Planning
Experience with Electric Generation, Distribution & Transmission networks, Gas Distribution & Transmission Asset and Work Management Processes
Demonstrated experience leading a project team of technical and functional consultants on Asset Management Consulting projects
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
IT project management experience implementing transformation projects
US-Based with ability to travel up to 50%
Master’s degree
7 years of experience with Electric Distribution & Transmission networks
Knowledge of a complete engagement lifecycle.
Business development experience
Experience with APM/AIP systems like Copperleaf, Hitachi Lumada APM, IPS APM, Asset360 etc
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience. Has managed significant engagements.
10+ years in a business/consulting environment. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Certifications
Certifications related to area of expertise, where applicable preferred.
