Molecular Sciences and Bioinformatics team in Seeds Regulatory Science is currently seeking a Research Scientist in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Molecular Genomics to join its dynamic team. The position will be in Global Business Center in Johnston, IA. The scientist will lead its NGS effort in planning, executing, monitoring experiments, analyzing in-depth large genomic datasets from NGS projects, and presenting/delivering results and conclusions for molecular characterization studies in compliance with all safety, regulatory, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in support of safety assessments conducted for regulatory submissions for our genetically modified crop products.

How will you help us grow? It matters to us, and it matters to you!

  • Develop NGS sample preparation methods using established molecular biology techniques and by exploring novel solutions.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new NGS methods and technologies to enable the expansion of tools available for characterizing diverse crop products.

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to provide key input into the development and implementation of NGS (Illumina, PacBio) strategies.

  • Independently analyze genomic data including quality control from high-throughput sequencing projects through established pipelines to ensure data quality.

  • Design and implement the development of bioinformatics workflows to automate frequently used analytical procedures, which may include modification of processing pipelines, statistical models, and analysis methods, for adapter trimming, assembly, alignment, variant calling, and data visualization to meet regulatory agency's requirements.

  • Play an active role in identifying, solving, and managing a variety of technical issues or challenges.
